Michigan's Adventure to receive $5 million in capital improvements

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Cedar Fair today announced that it will spend $5 million for capital improvements at its newest park, Michigan's Adventure. The improvements include a Skycoaster and go-kart track as up-charge attractions, a 40-foot-tall hydroflume raft slide that combines water with the thrills of a roller coaster, a nostalgic family train ride, Dodgem bumper cars, a kids' go-kart track, and a themed children's car ride. It also includes the addition of a new catering facility and picnic shelter that will be able to accommodate groups of more than 3,000 people, a Peanuts-themed live entertainment show and gift shop featuring Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the other Peanuts characters as well as significant upgrades to the park's restrooms, signage and landscaping.

If anything needs to be bulldozed it's that nasty Corkscrew station. I wasn't previously aware you could build a basement above ground!

In reguarding the Hydroflume type ride I think it maybe similar to Valleyfairs Hydroblaster.

You're probably correct.  People familiar with the park would know that they already have both a traditional and an enclosed family tube slide.  They don't need another one.

Other than a Master Blaster or Royal Flush, that would be one of the few slide products they don't already have...

Jeff, man, that was soooo funny!

I can't believe that Choas is staying! I thought at least it would be repaired and relocated to another Cedar Fair Park.

I wonder if they are going to try and get a classic carousel or at least house the Chance one they have.

A few updates for all those interested. First of all, a story was published in our papers today talking about this, if you are interested in reading it you can find it at http://mu.mlive.com/news/index.ssf?/news/stories/20011025mmadventure.frm. Regarding that subject, "Cedar Fair President Dick Kinzel was in Muskegon Tuesday" ahhh I missed him! Darn, I could've shown him around Muskegon:(. I also was fortunate enough to make it out to the park today with a friend who went to purchase her season pass. Some of the boards had blown off by Chaos, so I got a pretty good look at the ground work. Some parts are pretty smashed still, but others are perfectly fine with the restraints back on. The trains are off my baby and sitting under the lift:(. Corkscrew is being treated, so that means it is in for a new paint job(unless they like scraping off most of the paint and leaving it that way). No sign of any of the new attractions yet, however. That's the lowdown, besides the fact that it is snowing/extremely windy here, my park is doing fine:).

Thanks for the link Kara.   I hadn't even really thought about the fact that there aren't night time hours.  ST in the dark would be absolutely ridiculous.  Does Timberfest take place at night?  I might have to go next year if that's the case. *** This post was edited by chris on 10/25/2001. ***
Save the Station!

Yes, TimberFest is at night.

Great link there, Kara

A noteworthy piece of info from that article clearly says that the park will be open 2 additional weekends next year after Labor day and that night hours are coming in the future, but not in 2002.

Thats one of the best things already.

Offical word... it will be a 40 foot tall hydroflume raft slide.

Don't say it couldn't be, it's not a guess, it is true.

Does anybody think that part of the landscaping project include a lighting system. I heard from a few people from CP that they would put a lighting system in there as part of the improvements so that they could be open until 11pm-Midnight. That would bring in much needed revenue into this newly acquired park. Also, in return, that would bring more guests in the area.

The problem now is that they have to figure out what kind of mix would be good for the new attractions within the next 3-4 years. I know for a fact that I have been working at CP since 1998 as a seasonal. And each year up to now, they had something to make the park stronger.

If all goes well, I am going to work at Michgian's Adventure this summer to offer my expertise.
