Michigan's Adventure

I make two or three trips a year from Chicago, It takes about 3 hours.............and Its worth every second of that drive! #1 to be able to ride a world class woodie without waiting in line is fantastic!!! If ST was at CP you would have to wait over an hour just to get on, the way I see It MA is expanding every year and can only get a lot better. #2 now I can buy a season pass and SAVE money at CP buy now useing my pass.#3 There are lots of good rides there, even Zachs Zoomer is ok and Im 6FT tall AND 30 YEARS old...........I would say to anyone out there reading this thread to go for yourself .....Im willing to bet you'll think Its worth the 25 bucks to get in even If you never hit the water park ........MA IS WORTH THE TRIP!!!!!!

Hey 310 NICE TRACK RECORD!!!

I really want to visit MIA. I live near SFWOA and I don't have my license yet so it's kinda hard to get places. I wanted to go to Timbersfest this year but we are going to CoasterCon out in LA instead. MIA sounds like a cool place and ST looks awesome!

You have to be a member of the Coasterbuzz Club to use the track record feature. And please, stop shouting.

Hey 310ftdrop,

If Musckegon is so dumpy then why do you still live there? Be careful kid, your immaturity is showing.

Vertigo I beg to differ with you. This park pulls in more money for Cedar Fair every year than Cedar Point or SFMM. How's that for not major? According to Jack Falfas himself, Knott's has become a MAJOR player in the Cedar Fair chain, so much so that the next major record breaker is going into Knott's in 2004, not Cedar Point.

Knott's also has a major hotel, waterpark and is right behind Cedar Point in terms of major finantial investments by the chain. Sheesh, the fact that Disney is within ten minutes makes Knott's a goldmine within a goldmine.

And meanwhile I'm just hoping Valleyfair will get its share of the pie in 2003.

Amazing that someone who lives near Muskegon is so totally unaware of the summer tourist season and it's impact. Now that Cedar Fair has taken ownership of MA, I'm sure attendance will increase. There is lots of room for development, and the current rides DO attract adults (I'm 48). I'm looking forward to my first Timbers Fest this year, and meeting some of the people who APPRECIATE this park.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

Now wait a minute!!!!!!!

Here I am, just asking a few minor questions about ride placement, and what do I get? A WHOLE BUNCH OF NOTHING!!!!!!

Thanks Kara.

Saying that it is right behind Cedar Point in the Cedar Fair chain is not saying much. Saying it has a water park is not saying much, Funtown Splashtown USA and Lake Compounce have water parks and the parks are only as big as your average county fair. Back up here, who built the hotel? Exactly! Who is it still shared under? Exactly! Being near Disneyland doesn't make any park a gold mine, it may draw in somemore geust, but GP will come down to Disneyland and say lets go to Knotts while we're here. They go for the Disney/Universal vacation. You can be as close to another attraction as much as you want, but that still doesn't make a tourist trap a goldmine.

You could use the Track Record feature before CBC was introduced and it will stay. You just can't add to it:(

Its not a question of whether or not they'll have the money to do it, VF hasn't built anything new for two years back to back for nothing.

Knott's a tourist trap? Wow, never heard that one before. I usually hear how Knott's is one of the country's better amusement parks, one that blows SFMM out of the water in almost every way. Maybe we have different definitions of what makes a major park. I guess you would call Kennywood, Holiday World, Knoebels and Hershey not "major" as well. Just because a park doesn't have six billion coasters does not mean it's not a major player. Cedar Fair has done a knockout job with Knott's, the park stands on it's own as a major amusement park.

Hershey Park, yes, I would consider that, Knobel's and Holiday World aren't major theme parks though. The last phrase was not about Knott's Berry Farm, you put that in yourself.

Hey new guy...everything you need to know is in that thread. I'm sure you've read it by now. :) Just ask if you have any questions. If Kara is the "official" rep, then I guess you could call me the "unofficial" representative. ;) Just posted a new post onto that thread with some updates so be sure to take a look.

As for the mumblings in this thread about the area being a dump...it's all hooey. Plenty to do in the summer around here...no worries. For the average "Joe Blow" off the street that just likes to enjoy and have a good time with the family, MIA is a great park for the whole family. A pretty good waterpark AND plenty of family rides for only $23...that's a pretty good buy for me. The park will continue to expand with a full variety of rides and summer fun for all. If all you're into is the coasters...well then ST is top notch with 5 other coasters that I'm sure many smaller parks would be more than happy to have.

If the giant coasters is what you want 310ft, then that's cool. Go and enjoy them at the far away parks and have a ball. Since I have a park in my backyard that I enjoy and that my family loves, you betcha I'll support it with season passes for the family and all day excursions. Just don't sit there and bad mouth a park because it doesn't have what YOU want...I know you'll be there this season...so while you're taking another lap on ST, just be thankful you have that luxury while other people in this country don't.

Trooper - Seeing that you're from the area...What's the camping like at parks around MA? Some friends of mine and I were thinking about making a weekend trip this year, as opposed to the marathon day-trip back and forth to Chicago.

Thanks.

There are a few state parks in the area that are pretty nice with many amenities. PJ Hoffmaster and Muskegon are both on the lake and have a great view from the beach when the sun goes down(in case there is a significant other to share it with). The drive time from those parks will range from about 10-20 minutes. If you want closer, then there is a site just 3-5 minutes away called Lake Sch-nepp-a-hoe. It is right on Russell road and US.31...little pond for fishing and row boats/paddle boats.

As for the time of the year, holidays are a pain in the rear...you planning on a holiday weekend make reservations now, trust me. Most if not all of the parks and sites fill up on the holidays. State park camp sites are fairly large, but a lot of the private campgrounds have small sites for the camper. There is a good list of camping and lodging places on the MI Adventure website...they have phone numbers on it as well.

For the most part it's pretty good camping in the area, it all depends on what you're looking for amenities wise. Seems to me the state parks have the younger crowds(teens to mid-thirties) while the private parks cater a little more to the older folks. Well...there's a lot more trailers in the private ones, let's say that. Any other questions just ask...I'll do what I can to get some answers.
