Mantis valleys?

Has Superman - The Escape ever vallied? ;)
Cold days and rain will make a coaster valley. The wheels squeezing the rain water or the dew off of the rails causes a lot of resistance and slows the train. Just like you can feel you car slow a little when you hit a big puddle of water at highway speeds.

That can depend on the coaster. Some coaster run faster when wet...kind of like grease.

(Am I the only one who is thanking my lucky stars that Mean Streak did not get Six Flag'ized?) (Note: with the exception of a few Six Flags parks such as SFGAm the Six Flags chain is not known for well maintained woodies.)

Is Cedar Fair? More than half their wooden coasters are absolute crap.

Actually Premier(who now run SF) has built very few woodies, and the one's they have, I'd say are very well taken care of( Roar, for example). It's the older wooden coasters that they've inheirited, that they haven't bothered to invest in restoring, that give SF the bad rep for wooden coasters.

Just when you think SF completely destroys wooden coasters, they pull a Roar(east and west), Wild One, Thunder Run, Viper on you. CF's track record is a bit more shady, but they do pride themsleves on maintaining their CCI's.

Ok, back to Mantis... ;)

Viper was put in before Premier bought Six Flags. Just thought I'd point that out.

Also, my impression of Cedar Fair's woddies isn't bad at all... I've ridden blue Streak, and heard abut Timbers, plus they're taking care of the inherited Gostrider. What do you expect from Mean Streak and Hercules, really? They're Summers and Dinn monsters.

Superman:The Escape never does anything but valley, I've yet to see it get over the top. I bet it makes nationwide news when it does. How many of you out there in the peanut gallery have experienced the mudflaps and emergency brake behind the station on S:TE?

Once I came "close" to the top of S:TE. My brother and I were the only riders. :) The next time it must have been 60 feet short.

And "Premier" doesn't run Six Flags. They changed the name. Six Flags is not a seperate entity.

Raptor has rolled back 3 times in the past, and Gemini rolls back nearly every day as well as Wildcat and Blue Streak every now and then.

Mantis "valley'd" once in spring 2001 before the park opened.. That's it..

Way to go Nelson..

Thanks for the info Jeff. I had *no* idea Premier had adopted the Six Flags name. I guess I can stop calling that park in Valencia "PMM" now.

Anyway, Riddler's Revenge valley'd just a few months ago during a morning run. It's not that unusual.

That's wierd.

What kind of insentive do riders get if they are ever aboard a "valley'd" coaster?

-----------------

Most coasters won't valley with riders aboard. This is the case for B&M's, I've never heard of one valleying with riders aboard. B&M's trains are shorter as we all know, and wider. The trains have much more wind resistance that say and Intamin or Arrow, they also don't benefit from thier length of thier trains. If a strong wind gust or something like thta hits a B&M train when it's empty, it doesn't have the momentum it needs, causing it to valley. I know the majority of B&M standups and floorless coasters have valleyed...
I was at SFWoA on a very cold evening this past fall during Fright Fest. There was basically no one in the park and it was very cold (about 30*) with freezing rain. At the station of the Batman Knight Flight they said that I had to recruit people to ride it because there were only 8 guests up top. They said there had to be at least the front 4 rows filled or it would valley like it had in the past. So I ran down the midway and pulled some of the remaining guests (8 of them that had never ridden it before) and we got our rides on it.

Rentzy- Where I work, we give riders that have to be evacuated off of a ride complimetary passes. If they have a season pass they can give the ticket to a friend, or they can be given some food vouchers or something like that.

I've always wanted to be on a vallied coaster, it looks fun swinging back and forth and such.

Yeah last year I got stuck on Mr. Hyde's Nasty fall at SFWoA and they gave us free passes to get onto any ride we would like. We took the pass and easily bypassed the 2 hour wait on X-Flight. I thought that was very considerate of Six Flags to do that for my friend and I.

NO? Well, I guess *technically* it would be called "Cedar Fair-ized"....I usually use the word *neutered*....but IMO at least, Mean Streak HAS been "CP de-Nutted"....

Actually, it's always seemed to me that B&Ms are amoung the slowest coasters first thing in the morning. The hypers especially are very slow. I've always kind of attributed this to the precision of their construction. There's just nothing moving around loose, so when the grease its stiff everything is stiff.

Exactly, 'Gator. With two exceptions [Ghostrider, Blue Streak] Cedar Fair does not allow any of their wood coasters to run brake-free from lift to final brake run.
