Manhattan Express.....whats the deal?

ok, ive been wondering this for quite some time, is ME really THAT bad?? because ive asked a few of my friends at school who have ridden it and they said it was really smooth and fun and that i should go on it (and no they werent being sarcastic).  and then i go online and ask enthusiasts and they say its litterally satan himself, i need as much replies on this topic as possible people, cuz im going to las vegas soon, and im really wondering if im gonna get beat in the head with a baseball bat, or enjoy a ride on the worlds first "twist and dive" coaster. thanx!!
If you are going there by all means ride it!

(Me...rather than spend $10 on that again I'd rather just hit myself in the head with a brick)

other then the price it is not bad.I try to ride it when I get to Vegas (once a year) I would not ride it often even if I lived  there

ok like, i went on it, and it was really bad (but what do you expect from TOGO?). ME is not one of the best coaters there. But it is a real experiance when you do the heartline roll into the half-loop. It's a shame the coaster all in itself is a dissapointment since it is so rough. But it's not the worst. Desperado probably the roughest coaster in Nevada.

Oh BTW this is only my opinion.

Man, keyboarding doesn't do anything! I thought it makes you type better!

Brace yourself in the drop right before the loop. You'll do fine. Between three or four spots of good airtime (not great airtime, but good), the twist'n'dive, and the placement of the ride, you're bound to find something to like about Manhattan Express.

I'd even suggest getting the all-day pass if you're there for re-rides or find that you like it. Last time I visited, you got unlimited rides and a Manhattan Express t-shirt for $30. Not a bad deal, pays for itself the third ride.

But, maybe you shouldn't trust me...I like Psyclone @ SFMM...:)

hey thanx!! mostly bad reviews, but hey, it works.  i think i will go on it, i wanna experience a TOGO before they are all torn down and i think this one is a couple seasons away from being windjammer express....
I rode it and I thought it was smooth...but I was really short then...

tip: if you ride Desperado ($6), you get a ride one get one free for the Manhattan Express. So i suggest going on Desperado first if you plan on riding ME.

I have ridden both ME and Desperado, I thought that ME was smoother than Desperado but it is still a little bumpy. I think the best coaster in Vegas is Speed: The Ride.

"Nothin wrong with a little airtime"
I have to agree with hypersonicxlc.  I also thought ME was smoother than Desperado.  Both coasters are rough in their own way.  I enjoyed ME more.  The twist and dive was cool.  Just try to keep your head steady and you should be ok.
Speed Rocks

Manhattan Express is a unique coaster. The trains are highly unusual (four, 4-passenger cars per train, restraints are a lap bar and a partial OTSR) with their "taxi cab" theme, the setting is fantastic, and the ride has some interesting elements. It's kind of odd climbing a 200-foot lift hill, only to drop about 100 feet on the first drop. The train rounds a corner and then drops 144-feet alongside Tropicana Avenue. Riders then flip 360-degrees in the vertical loop and proceeds into the very cool twist and dive inversion. It feels like you are held upside-down much longer than you should be! The rest of the ride consists of bunny hops and helixes.... none of which are particularly exciting. For $10, I think the ride is grossly overpriced, but the GP seems to eat it up as waits are almost always found here. On my last trip in May, the posted wait time was 45 minutes... and this was only an hour after opening! If you've never been on it, by all means, give it a try and form your own opinion. That's the only way to know if you'll like the ride or not.

My pick for best coaster on the Strip goes to Canyon Blaster at Circus Circus' Adventuredome. This pink Arrow-looper may not be tall or particularly long, but it affords a nice first drop, two vertical loops, a fantastic pop of airtime, a smooth corkscrew section, and a neat tunneled helix at the end... all in a climate-controlled pink dome. At $5 a ride, it's half the price of ME... and for $17 (approx.), you can ride all day, plus get unlimited rides on their Shoot-The-Chutes, Inverter, Chaos, Pirate Ship, bumper cars, and IMAX ride film simulators.

When I went in May I rode the Manhatten Express twice.  First I rode in the very front row and rather enjoyed the ride since you could properly brace yourself.  After that I rode in the very back seat and had a rough ride.  I couldn't tell what was coming up as easy and as a result I banged my head quite a bit.  This coaster definately takes some defensive riding to make it enjoyable, but it's definately worth at least one ride.  On the other hand, High Roller isn't worth one ride just ride Big Shot multiple times.  I really enjoyed Canyon Blaster but Speed was by far my favorite and I rode it about 15 times with an all day pass.
I too recently went to Las Vegas 2 months ago today and I rode just about every attraction there. From my point of view the Manhatten Express was definately the worst coaster I truly have ever been on. First the shoulder harnesses were weird and felt uncomfortable on the shoulders. Second after the first drop the cars turn so fast and angled I felt like my juguler vein was bruised due to the shoulder harness. Simple solution get new shoulder harnesses or none at all, just lap bars, think PKI and Flight of Fear. Past all the speed and head banging there are features on M.E. that you'll never forget. The heartline which was friggin' cool and the strange STEEP lift hillon the side of the building. And did anyone else feel that in the end of the ride the brakes in the tunnel were not going to stop the train and that there might be a hidden drop in the tunnel? Oh Well, Have a good time in Vegas, but at least try every ride! By the Way Speed:The Ride Rules and is the best Linear I. in the US!
When i flew to vegas i got a cupon book at the air port. In it was a free ride on manhatten express and desperado! I rode them both for free! Desperado is a lot rougher than ME, but do look for the cupon book, you cant argue with free.
ME is the worst coaster I have ever been on. I rode it when it first opened and I loved it. But I went to Vegas earlier this year and rode it and it was horrible. The main problem that I had were the OTSR. They were so uncomfortable.
Well, is rough maybe, however I think it's a great coaster...The first part of the ride it's a hypercoaster and that is amazing (spacially the second drop)...but the climax of the ride is obviously the twist and dive...ohh that's insane...prety cool and then before the final helix you can catch great airtime (on any sit because of the short train)...I think is a pretty good ride...but what it make it bad, of course, is the price...10 Dlls!!! they are out of their mind!!! however there are a lot of coupons to half the price of the ride and that worth it...Be sure to get the Speed...the best coaster in nevada...Actually, I think Desperado is the worst beside the coaster at the MGM Thunderboldt and the High Roller, it's amazing the views but that's all...
The reason that there's that discount for ME and Desperado is that both properties are owned by the same company, MGM Mirage.

As for ME, it is an ok ride, yes it is a bit rough, that's its character. Speed: The Ride is my favorite. This summer they had a special for all day rides for $10 and $15 including the Cyberspeedway.

Adventuredome is $18.95, but there are coupons at local KFC's for 4 bucks off

-----------------
"ok everyone go ahead and pull down on your shoulder restraint so you feel nice and stuck!"

I love the twist and dive! As for the rest of the coaster, lets not go there...

Don't look down-Oblivion
These rides aren't rough in the true sense of the word. They just don't do transistions well. In other words, if you learn how to ride them they're actually pretty good. Desperado is a very good rode if you know when to brace for the "rough" transistions. ME has some unique elements as well.

Definately ride both of them!
