Man injured on fair coaster with his hands up, operator blames rider

Florida's fair ride inspector reported last week that he found nothing wrong with the Doppel Looper double-looping roller coaster at the South Florida Fair. He inspected the coaster Sunday, a day after a Lantana man said his wrist and arm were broken as he held them over his head during the ride. Conklin Shows, which operates the ride, says that signs indicate to riders to keep their hands down. The rider says that's "unrealistic" expectation.

Actually, I think this guy has no one to blame but himself. Most rides, I obey the rules and keep my hands down. Why, because I did something at PKI and was minorly injured and was completely at fault. What had happened was, my brother and I were riding the log flume and happened to share a ride with these two cute girls. (I was probably about 16). Anyway, we were in the front of the boat and I thought that I would be funny and reach down into the water and splash the girls. Well, by the second or third time I did this, my thumb got smashed between the boat and the side of the ride, much to my astonishment. But, the point being, I knew what I had done was really stupid and had no one to blame but myself. Didn't really do any damage other than a bruise. I never reported it to the park and I never told my brother in fear that he would think I was stupid for doing such a stupid thing.
Considering I rode this ride when I was 6 I can't see why a grown person would be that incompatant to not read the sign. The ride is safer than anything on the fair grounds. (I was brought up on Conklin, and I'm only 17 now.)
