Magic Kingdom's Cars land will be called Piston Peak National Park

Posted | Contributed by bigboy

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers. While fictional, Piston Peak is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks.

Inside Piston Peak, guests will be able to see and explore the visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, trails and more all set within the Disney and Pixar “Cars” universe. To make sure these buildings fit naturally within the surrounding majestic landscapes, Imagineers are using a style of architecture called “Parkitecture,” which was developed by the National Park Service to create structures that harmonize with the natural environment.

Glad they are keeping with the wilderness theme. I like the sound of it.

I like that it appears that they are maintaining some sort of river along with the Frontierland boardwalk. Also buried in the story is a hard end date for Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island of July 7th.

Very glad the water will still go by BTMRR and Spl—-I mean Tiana, because those rides would suffer without interacting with the water.

I'm going to sound like the old guy (which I guess I am becoming). I am sorry to see Rivers of America go. The sound of the Steamship, the raft river crossings, the quiet spaces on TSI. I completely understand why they are doing it, and I'm not saying it won't be nice...but I wish they could have preserved it in the way Disneyland preserved the River when they added Star Wars.

The only reason DL will keep theirs is because of Fantasmic and the dining packages it sells. ROA and TSI are not revenue producing and are not tied to a Disney IP. Modern Disney refuses to build anything that doesn’t do both and refuses to maintain an attraction that at least does one of those things.

Hall of Presidents? American Adventure? Country Bears Jamboree? Astro Orbiter? Aside from brand new E-Tickets and a small selection of iconic rides (e.g., Haunted Mansion) that sell a ton of merchandise, no single attraction can be directly attributed to a park's revenue. Theme parks are a sum of their parts -- people go for the overall experience, not because the teacups are or are not operating. Saying that Disney "refuses" to maintain these attractions is silly because it's just not the case.

When they realize they need to replace old attractions, they probably look at customer sentiment, age, and ridership. They don't have an Excel spreadsheet that lists the rides in order of their impact on park revenue and remove the rides that land on the bottom.

I've been to Tom Sawyer Island twice ever. I bet it was 10 years ago at this point. Heck, I can't even tell you the last time I was in Magic Kingdom. It's my least favorite park, but this will definitely help.

Bummer that Thunder Mountain will still be down until next year.

I can't say what TSI is like at Disneyworld now, as we haven't been there since before the pandemic. We had a lot of fun with the kids there on our last trip, though it wasn't a huge long stay. The biggest challenge was waiting to catch a raft off of the island (and oh, it wasn't open terribly late, which precluded visiting there to get a bit of quiet later on in the day. Fast forward to last year and a visit to DL. We thought about going out to TSI, but, so much of it was closed off that we choose otherwise. It's as if it hadn't reopened after the pandemic. Again, can not say if that was the case in Florida or not, but that was our experience with DL.

I for one am loving the introduction of the Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore character (a play on J. Audubon Woodlore, from the old Humfrey the Bear shorts).

The Cars movies/Lands have consistently had some of the best puns and callback references, and Cars Land is perhaps my favorite themed area in a Disney park.

I’m looking forward to this in a big way

Hi

Not to mention the ride with all of the big red rocks right next to this new area that's getting a major overhaul.

They still have attractions that are not tied to IP but when is the last time they installed a fantastic attraction not tied to IP? I think it was Everest and the theme of it is spectacular.

Frontierland was a well theme section and a beautiful part of the park that brought you back into another time. Unfortunately customers can only relate to things they see on video now and don’t appreciate being transported back in time.

This section of the park will basically have no theme integrity now as it is just random attractions that they tried to force into a common theme. Disney has become very Paramount in the way they install attractions anymore

in defense of the sternwheeler, It was a nice long ride that could always be ridden with minimal wait because of its capacity. Every park needs that especially when it’s overcrowded.

This park is always very overcrowded and it needs to be expanded not have attractions replaced IMO to handle the crowd. The last time the footprint of this park was expanded I believe was where the circus area is now. They expanded Hong Kong beyond the railroad and the same thing should happen at this park to help handle the crowds.
