From the Disney Parks Blog:
Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers. While fictional, Piston Peak is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks.
Inside Piston Peak, guests will be able to see and explore the visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, trails and more all set within the Disney and Pixar “Cars” universe. To make sure these buildings fit naturally within the surrounding majestic landscapes, Imagineers are using a style of architecture called “Parkitecture,” which was developed by the National Park Service to create structures that harmonize with the natural environment.
I miss parking at the Poly and ending the night there with Dolewhip.

Let me add about the placement of Villains Land, the rumor is that a second entrance may end up in Fantasyland, which would be thematically awesome! It could make a loop from Haunted Mansion to the back of Fantasyland. Something would have to be moved or removed to do that though, and Tinkerbell would have to add a pinch of pixie dust magic to hide the Utilidor entrance and back end from guests. Maybe a themed tunnel or a land bridge with high walls.
And another rumor suggests that Disney could finally add their first in-park hotel behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad themed to Haunted mansion.
These seem far-fetched, but there is some credibility to them.
When they announced Cars Land and Villains Land, they had an idea for where Cars was going to go, but people speculate that they didn't know exactly how Villains was going to fit in at the time. This is judging be the artwork. It seems that Cars is the only land they knew the exact location for, because of the locations existing attractions in the artwork. Villains, Monsters Inc, Coco, ect. didn't have those details.

After the new concept art, I would assume that Villiansland is going on the north end of the River sort of between Big Thunder Mountain and Haunted Mansion. A walkway to there from Fantasyland is going to displace a pretty substantial service space or cut through the alley way between the massive Small World and Mansion show buildings. Both seem unlikely but I guess we'll see.
I finally rode the train from Fantasyland on my trip last month and I was equally unimpressed by the tunnel through Tron. It doesn't ruin anything for me, but it seems like a missed opportunity.
There is apparently a utilidor under the river. It's how they stock the food stand that I've never seen open.
I don't buy any of the rumors. They're almost never right, and when they are, it's because the outcome is obvious.

If there was a Utilidor under the river, I never saw it. I think that is only rumor (unless it was expanded sometime after the early 90s).

I think you're right. Someone said it on the island in front of the food stand and I just figured it made sense. The maps online do not have a spur in that direction.

I recall reading on another site, maybe it was a theme park blog, the suggestion to relocate It's A Small World to Epcot. The new location would go somewhere in World Showcase, which isn't a bad idea when thinking about it.

The iasw rumor is mainly a fan theory and been out on the internet for forever. I wouldn’t put too much stock in it. Would make sense, but at least where the fans want it (World Showcase plaza, ie the open space and two small gift shops between Mexico and Canada) would take away the main fireworks viewing spot and would require them to theme all sides of a box (as the entire building would be on stage.)

It is only rumor. Nothing goes over to the island or even close to it. The utilidoor in Frontierland follows the building footprint from Diamond Horseshoe to Pecos Bills.

Uh, they're replacing an underutilized piece of land with several new attractions, restaurants and shops, and beyond that adding an entirely new villains land. Aren't they doing exactly what you're saying they're not?
If the Villians Land gets built, that's and expansion. But since Disney is the world leader of cancelling announced projects, it's always "believe it when it starts construction" with this company.
What I was speaking of is the Cars attraction. It does not increase the pathway footprint of the park, and most likely does not increase capacity.
What is this hodge-podge area now themed to? The frontier? New Orleans? A road rally at a national park? Its an absolute mess as far as theming.
Cars Land is in California is an immersive experience. This is messy way to force the IP into some sort of "rustic" theme. Very Paramount.
