Magic kingdom brawl

I'm trying to imagine myself on the inaugural cruise on the Wish (which was already discounted since it was delayed), and then complaining.

About anything.

I have a healthy imagination, and I can't get there.

Some people just suck at life. They usually lose the game sooner.

Well, there was the lady who was bitching at breakfast about them not having a juicer, and what a disappointing cruise it was because of it. Mind you, I saw her later playing in the free-throw contest with her family having a good time, so I guess she's just a basic Karen (she did speak to a manager). Others complained about the layout of the ship, which I read to mean "I don't know where stuff is yet." Still others complained about how crowded the bars were. Keep in mind, there were at best 200 kids onboard, so the usual nightly dilution of adults didn't happen because families weren't going to bed at 10, of course the bars were more crowded than usual. But I don't even buy that, because when one was crowded, we went to another one. Oh, and I saw on FB after people complaining that the pirate deck party "sucked," even though they finally have a live band playing all of the stereotypical Gen-X anthems of a CP Red Garter show, and they impressively played the Pirates of The Caribbean theme live with the fireworks (which were also launched from two locations so they better filled the sky off the starboard side). The worse complainers though were the ones who felt they didn't get enough free stuff or VIP treatment, you know, beyond the fact that it ended up being half-price because they moved it and you got to be on the first regular sailing. And I loved the hard-bound making-of book they gave us for free.

Wow to all of that. My best friend just got back from a 12 day cruise on the Magic in the Med. Their luggage never made it to the ship so they spent 12 days on a cruise and 4 days on land with only their two carry-ons and still managed to have an amazing time. It's amazing how people will take the smallest of things and use that to ruin their vacation. At the end of the day you're still on a cruise ship living your best life.

Privilege is one of the ugliest traits, in my opinion. And, I do see it more and more at Disney. I think their long standing bar of good service is misinterpreted as some by something that is easy to achieve. It is not.

I had a wonderful experience at Disneyland. I bought the Genie+ (and I think I used it more efficiently than I expected to thanks to some fan tutorials) but somehow I screwed up a booking for the Matterhorn for my son and I. I thought I had it booked...and it was for rather late in the day. When I got to the ride I could not find evidence of the scan tag that I needed to get in the Lightning Lane. The ride op tried to help me with my phone (which I believe was updating at that time) and I just turned to my son and said, I'm sorry...dad screwed up. I turned to leave and the cast member asked me where we were from. When I told her Florida she said, "you probably aren't going to be back here anytime soon...go ahead and get in the line". I was taken aback and expressed my thanks...and on we went. Talk about exceeding expectations.

As a footnote, when we got off the ride my phone had completed the update...and there was the scan tag. We could have ridden again, but the ride was so rough that I told my son we'd let it go. We tried to find a couple people nearby that might be able to go on our "pass", but never did.

If you are looking for a reason not to have fun, you'll usually find it.

But enough about Disney fan sites

It's funny that most people who go full Karen don't understand that if you are just nice to an employee, or admit that the screw up was you and not the business, the person who can help you actually will.

A few years ago I was running late to a flight in Houston and I was standby. Got to the gate right before door close just as someone was arguing with the agent about not getting on the flight (was also a standby I believe). They walked away mad and when I stepped up I made a comment about that passengers attitude and then explained I was hoping to get on the flight. They got me on, in first class. The bonus was I was running late because I wanted Whataburger but they made my sandwich wrong. A Flight Attendant made a joke that he wished he had Whataburger so I gave him my sandwich. In return he gave me two bottles of wine when I got off the plane. It's so easy to be nice, even if you are to blame for the problem. I have gotten so far with hotels, flights, restaurants, amusement parks just by being nice to people.

There's used to be a Whataburger commercial that ran in Texas where the actor talks about being late for his flight because he was in line for Whataburger. When he got to the gate, the agent offered to let him on the flight in exchange for his burger. Unlike you, the actor just opted to miss the flight.

A little goodwill has always gone a long way for me at Disney (or any number of other establishments). On our trip in April, we showed up at an Epcot restaurant with an extra person not on our reservation. Nobody threw a fit and I was more than willing to be the odd one out, but they let our entire party be seated.

I'm done adulting. Let's go to Disney.

It’s “well known” that you can show up to a WDW dining reservation with one or two extra people and up to an hr late without any hassle.

That is strangely similar to my situation. If I don't have to fly direct when I go out west I will purposely route through IAH just to get Whataburger between flights.

We hit up Whataburger in LaGrange TX a couple years ago. Call me unimpressed. Certainly would not fly out of the way to get one of their burgers.

It's just fast food. Just like with In-n-Out, people expect more because of the hype. To me, Whataburger is higher quality than most fast food, but I'm probably a little biased since I've been eating it for most of my life with the figure to prove it. (Disclosure: Unlike a lot of people in Texas, I like In-n-Out just as much as Whataburger.)

I wouldn't fly out of my way either which is why I only stop when I am passing by. That said there really isn't anything impressive about any fast food joint but when there is an option to get something from a place you don't always have access to, it just tastes better. Same reason why In & Out is popular for anyone who travels to California from the east coast.

I think that sums it up for me. I was figuring it was going to be the best burger I have ever had. It was just a hamburger from a fast food place. I think that is why I try to hit up local places whenever possible as those are usually better.

I lived in Texas for 11 years and have lived in CA for 6 years now. I don't especially care about In & Out or What-a-burger. They don't taste especially different from Five Guys or any other "not-McDonald's" burger fast food place.

It wasn't well known to me but I'm not surprised. We had an opposing experience a couple of years ago at Prime Time at DHS where the host was pretty snippy about part of our group showing up about 20 minutes late. It didn't upset me because it was completely our fault and it was getting late in the day, but he wasn't exactly flexible and kept repeatedly threatening my wife with giving away our table.

I completely get the letdown of Whataburger. It really is just fast food.
