Losing Posts After Submit: Auto Save / Auto Remove Formatting?

I'm having an awful time with losing parts or whole posts after submitting. Basically, any time I copy / paste something from Microsoft Word, CoasterBuzz forums, or a word / quote off some random website, I'll forget to highlight the whole post and click the remove formatting eraser.

I hit submit, and my post ends up blank or just a fragment of a sentence. It's an awful feeling, because I put quite a bit of care and time into my posts. When I lose them, paging back does nothing to get me back to the pre-submit stage. Then, I try to re-construct my posts from memory, but they just never seem to end up as good as the first submit. Many times I just shut off the computer in disgust.

I rarely have this problem on other sites or PointBuzz. I'd be so happy if what I'm typing automatically saved (before submitting), or if you could somehow automatically apply the "Remove formatting" to every post submitted.

Yeah. I have the same issue. Copying and pasting flat out doesn't work.

The way around it that I've found is to paste something, highlight it and use the "Remove Formatting" button in the reply toolbar. Others say use notepad and copy & paste from there.

Not sure why we have to do this, but it's been like that for quite a while now - since the last update, I believe.

I create a lot of posts with Stickies or TextEdit, if necessary, and then copy and paste it into the CoasterBuzz text editor. I have a Mac, so I don't know exactly what software is available to use with one's PC.

It might be a good idea to copy your entire post before you hit submit, just in case it doesn't turn out the way you want it to. You can paste it in and try again.

Most of my posts are one-liners (the Henny Youngman of C-buzz).

If I'm posting a novelette or something like that, I generally Ctrl-A/Ctrl-C the same as I do with long emails. That way I can submit/send and have no fear of losing a wordy post or missive...

Word has a bunch of markup in it that gets pasted in that isn't "legal," so it's going to get nuked. That's just the way it is. I don't understand why people are so compelled to use something other than the box on the page.

But it's not just word - for me, it's any pasting from any source...even from the same page I'm trying to post on. For some reason you have to unformat it for it to show up. Otherwise it just posts as blank nothingness...I had a post recently where everything after the paste disappeared once I hit the post button because I forgot to use the remove formatting on the pasted text before I continued writing the rest of the post.

Surely, that's not 'correct' behavior. Or at the very least it's not useful behavior.

Shouldn't copy & paste just work?

The reason I'm using Word in the first place is so that I stop losing my posts here. I don't add the step of using Word on any other forums. Like Gonch said, I'm losing stuff when practically copying / pasting from anywhere.

I've been doing this extra step for a long time, and I'm using the other strategy that Gator mentioned. If I use the box, I also highlight and copy my posts periodically to save my progress. But, it's very easy to get into a discussion and forget to save work and use the "Remove Formatting" button, and then I pay for it.

If Gonch is even having this problem, just think of all the newer posters that are losing posts and don't even know how to correct the issue. I know this is a great opportunity for a joke, but seriously, I'd love to see CB without the extra steps.

I was unaware that you didn't know about this problem, Jeff. Let me show you. Maybe it will help. I am going to copy and paste your last post on here, in a new paragraph, just under this paragraph. I am assuming that it won't work, but lets just see. Maybe the code or whatever (I am unfamiliar with how it works exactly) will somehow show up and help you, perhaps?

I pasted your last post just above. This is the third paragraph in my post before I hit submit reply. I did not touch the eraser button.

Edited to add: Why did it work that time and not other times? Did you fix it? lol

I'm aware of it, it just doesn't appear to affect enough people to spend a lot of time worrying about it at the moment.
