Log Flume Research

So Hersheypark has a Hydro Flume (with the speed bump). Any others left with the speed hill?

What are the flumes like Kennywood has with the drop followed by an uphill section like a coaster. I heard most of these have been reprofiled to get rid of the uphill section. I heard BGW's Flum had one of these hills as well.

Someone needs to make the lfdb.com as a sister site of rcdb.com that could be pretty interesting *** Edited 10/27/2004 11:50:46 PM UTC by coasterpunk***

BGT's flume did indeed have an uphill section like Kennywoods....at least it did in 1987.
Carowinds flume also had an uphill section and it was reprofiled in the early 80's to the traditional straightaway plunge. You can see it in this picture:

Dave.. The steel guide rails are on the regular flumes also. GL still has thiers at the bottom of both hills...

Those are Arrow boats... *** Edited 10/28/2004 5:43:05 AM UTC by Red Garter Rob***

I nominate you. . .

Down is the new up.
IIRC, most Arrow flumes that I've ridden have had more of a curve to the bottom corners of the trough. This trough seems a little more boxy to me.

I'm with Rideman on this one. I don't doubt it's an Arrow, but is it a standard flume or is it a hydro flume (super flume?)? Also, I think that the trough walls on the standard Arrow flumes is more vertical than that. Don't quote me on that.

Dan-
How closely have you inspected the parts in the field? Have you see any parts that might, possibly, have some sort of ID numbers or a park name anywhere?

I'm sure with an ID number of some sort and an e-mail to the folks at S&S/Arrow this could be figured out quickly.

If I had any idea how to make a website I would but since I'm clueless on how to build one I'll leave the idea for someone else. Although I would try to help any way I could.

Maybe since work is slow it would be a good time for me to learn how to build websites. At least it would be a little more productive then going to bars, surfing the net, playing video games, seeing bands, and watching movies. :) I can see it cutting into my busy schedule already! ;)

I'm already a step ahead of you John.. ;)

Serial #'s have been sent to a current S&S/former Arrow person.

Yeah John, I got the serial numbers off the boats. Like Rob said, that is being taken care of.
So these pieces are just sitting in some random field in Ohio? How strange is that? Could it be from a defunct park in that area?
The closest defunct park is the old Euclid Beach Park.
Any chance of a bunch of us getting together and start putting the pieces together? :)

I wonder if the flume is from Boblo Island. The boats are Arrow, but the actual flume looks different.

A history website about Boblo says the Boblo had a Sansei/Arrow flume. If the actual flume was made by Sansei, that would explain why it doesn't look like a typical Arrow.

Also, the Boblo advertisement near the bottom of the page shows a flume boat going down the hill. The boat is a long boat, which looks very much like the boats in Dan's photographs. The advertisment say "ride the Log Flume".

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

The website Pete references claims Boblo had 18 boats for it's flume. There are at least 20 in the one picture possibly more. Now that doesn't mean they didn't acquire more boats, but reading through that page, it does mention the boats from Boblo's log flume are being used on SFoT's log flume.
I think both of Great America's Log Flumes are Arrows. On Logger's Run at Six Flags Great America, can anyone explain the large amount of water shooting up at the boats at the bottom of the large drop? The boats go right over it, and you get soaked! It that an add-on feature?
Those boats in the field look exactly like the ones Dorney Park uses on Thunder Creek Mountain. But their flume was build by some company called Kaplinger or something. Wonder if they just added the Arrow logs later on.
.. ask and ye shall recieve...

Based on the serial #'s from some of the boats, the ride was at Funtown Pier in NJ, according to Arrows records.

It opened with 33boats each holding 5 people.

Now.. how did it end up in said field??? ;)
