Locals derail Stratosphere's coaster plans

Posted | Contributed by MFRULES

Nearly 75 locals turned out for a meeting that sprouted a 3-2 vote against the Stratosphere Hotel's new coaster plans.

Lawyers from the hotel will again try to make their case for the project when it goes before the City Council for final approval on Oct. 17.

Great points, that is why coaster enthusiast get a bum rap most of the time, due to inconsiderate remarks about not caring and such. Wanting coasters no matter what and not caring on what needs to be done to get it. What a shame, how about a little more consideration, and looking at things from all angles. Not just the narrow-minded one!
I have looked at this from both sides.  As an enthusiast, I would love to see this built since I visit Vegas on a regular basis.  It would be a great addition to the hotel.  But look at how it affects people.  No, I do not own a house but sorry Jeff, I am posting my opinion.  Sure, you say that you want a coaster in your backyard, that is until it becomes an inconvenient thing just once.  How about having to get up at 3:30 in the morning and having to hear it until 11 when the park closes?  It could have a drastic affect on you as a person, more than most will admit.  But on that counterpoint, you have the enclosed cars eliminating the scream noise.  The other noise can be kept down as well.  They did it with Kraken or have people forgotten that?

That leaves other issues as well such as the look and affect it would have.  It would not hurt property value.  That I can say formally being in the business.  If these houses that are 3 blocks away, expensive and feel this would damage the value, then they have a right to fight.  This basically is the same as the government trying to come in and build that "secret military base" right behind you.  These people feel it is going to affect their homes and are fighting it.  But if you sit back and cut on them for fighting, you had better not care when they come to build something by you.

P.S.  irondraggon, i do not see how they are "pathetic".  They fight for what they believe in, as we do when we say we are enthusiasts.  I guess that makes us pathetic too because we fight for things we believe too huh? *** This post was edited by DragonCyrs on 9/9/2001. ***

They should go build it out in the middle of the desert off of a highway or something
Looking at the model of this coaster,I really felt it would have added a sleek artistic form to an out dated bland looking structure.

As for the project itself,I really feel it isn't over by a long shot. It'll more likely reappear on a ballot somewhere down the line.

I;d like to see people get this upset over urban sprawl eating up family farm after family farm.

All at once the ghosts come back reeling you in now.
It will guaranteed still be built. The reason is, the peopl at the Stratosphere could really care less about what 75 measly people have to say about this matter. It's been a hot topic on some sites as of late, and the rumor is that they're still going to build it anyway. As for the ferris wheel. I think it's ironic that the people want the rollercoaster (which is going to be built) not built, when the ferris wheel will be much of the same eye sore. It's going to be over 500 feet for crying out loud! You can see that for a long stretch away, so what's with the rollercoaster? It's so stupid because the only thing that will really be focused on is the fish hook tower itself. The ride will either blend in or not really be noticed running alongside the streatch of the tower, except for the part that sticks out (the fishhook). If they still build it, it will be kind of funny because the fishhook will be about the same size as Superman at SFMM.

You're missing the big picture. Those "measly" 75 people elect the planning and commission and city council. Think about that for a minute...

I have to respond to that by saying that it was a majority for the coaster being built by the people already in office and the people who worked at the tower. Those 75 people (who apparently don't know how to make good decisions) voted against the ride that will most certainly be built. Enough said, END of story.
SFMM Lover if it weren't for morons like you, there would be no favortism in the world. You truly don't get what Jeff is saying do you... Think! *** This post was edited by Why me on 9/11/2001. ***
