Locals derail Stratosphere's coaster plans

Posted | Contributed by MFRULES

Nearly 75 locals turned out for a meeting that sprouted a 3-2 vote against the Stratosphere Hotel's new coaster plans.

Lawyers from the hotel will again try to make their case for the project when it goes before the City Council for final approval on Oct. 17.

ya know, I don't have a problem with people not liking the idea of a 700' thrill ride, but there's no reason for them to laugh at the idea of that thrill ride helping their community.

That SUCKS BIGTIME!!!
That car looks awesome. The only thing I don't like about it is that is will be in-closed.

I would think it would have to be inclosed for saftey, for example to protect you from flying objects.

Im glad it got voted down, it would hold a coaster record, and I don't think it's a coaster at all...Coasters take desiing and are more than a drop....All this is a drop. MF deserves to keep some records that this would break!

Oh please, who cares? Records don't mean jack. A ride is good or it isn't.

I'm not surprised it got rejected at all. I told you that the locals would make a big issue of it.

WHAT THE **** DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE GLAD IT GOT VOTED DOWN??!#%$&*???

YEAH, **** ALL THE PEOPLE WHO MIGHT GET A CHANCE TO RIDE IT!!! I DONT WANT THEM TO BREAK MY PRECIOUS RECORD THAT I DON'T REALLY HAVE ANYWAY!

sorry about the caps... im just really pissed off

I bet if you lived near it you wouldn't say the same thing...

you don't want a ride to be built just because it would break a stupid record?

"MF deserves to keep some records that this would break!"

*Pukes*

I think you can come up with a better reason to warrant the fact that you "are glad it got voted down".

This ride is a new level of thrills.... and something I definitely would want to experience.  However, I don't blame the locals for fighting it...

What the heck is wrong with these locals?!  Sad because of people screaming?!  The friggin car is enclosed, so they wouldn't hear people screaming!  Also, just fill the track with the sand/gravel mixture to quiet the rails.  There ya go...no more sound.  It's not my fault that they live in a trailer park and don't have enough money to pay for the ride when it opens.  LOL.

Um, exactly HOW would this ride be any worse than any of the other rides already in Vegas? The car is enclosed, so I assume that it would make LESS noise than say... the average jumbo jet? Were any of the idiots who showed up people who've actually been on a coaster or freefall ride at least once in their entire pathetic lives? Somehow I seriously doubt it. So, MILLIONS of people may not see this dream come true just because of a lousy 75 fools who don't like coasters anyway? Isn't this just lovely... I swear, some people really SUCK! I supposed their gonna kill that proposed 500ft ferris wheel out there too, or have they already done that?

Calm down people, it's not over yet by any means. I will bet you almost anything it still gets built.

Good move, not to build this massive attraction. It will only add another distraction in las vegas, build this attraction where it should be built, and amusement park... but like Dweaver pointed out it'll probably still get built, so it doesn't really matter. :)
las vegas pretty much is an amusement park, with all the strip clubs and casinos and rides
um, Coaster131, Im not laughing out loud.  These aren't abunch of trailerpark strippers and hicks who were protesting it.  The people were quite wealthy, living in an upscale neighborhood near the stratosphere.  I can gurantee you hey could have ridden the thing.  its a good idea to read into things before you jusdge people and give in to stereotypes.

On the topic of the coaster, I now think that the people had a good arguement.  While I love coasters, I don't think I would like one in my back yard (Atleast one I dind't own)  Im sure that the coaster will come up in the future, and if the designers are able to prove that it will mot be a nuiscance, there is a good chance it will be built

You know, it's the few posts of people in this thread that makes me ashamed of calling myself an enthusiast...especially the posts 5 and 6 back.

If you've noticed, not everything in the world revolves around coasters. I'm sure some of the people that live in trailer parks don't appreciate the smart remark you made, Coaster131.

irondraggon, from the way you act by your posts, you sure don't seem like you're 33. "...their pathetic lives?" I'm sure that any person that isn't a coaster freak would hate to have a big ride right by their house, noise or not.

Think when you post.

This really not cool that it got rejected but I saw it coming. I understand their argument even though I do not agree with it. Maybe the plans are not lost. a lot of time zoning and area plans change after business owner persist.
