Lines at CP

I can agree with 310ftdrop somewhat.

I went to CP for the first time this summer on a Saturday in July so of course the lines were crazy and the park packed, but thank goodness I ran like the wind with my family to MF first and walked right on believe it or not, when I got off there was like an hour wait already!  Plus it WAS 107F that day and I was miserable especially when I had to wait 2 1/2 hours on Mantis/ longest wait of the day, and it turned out to be horrible, not the ride layout but the break on the first drop!  Some good advice, rides like Gemini and Corkscrew have nobody waiting in them at all and they turned out to be 2 of my favorite rides of the day! great airtime on both and my family and I were almost the only ones in the car, it rocked!

Well...we all have our favs, of course.  And debate is nice, but I have to agree to disagree with any negative thoughts on CP's lines.  I've been to CP enough to realize a good thing when I see it...and that is something that other parks only dream about achieving, but rarely do they do it.  CP's lines do move faster than other parks because of their successful ability to operate three trains while other parks take their leisurely time running one & two train operations on their coasters.

Yeah, if you go to CP during the mid-summer on a weekend, there is a good chance you'll wait in line for a while, but at least the line moves pretty rapidly.

Andrew is right on with his post.  Magnum's longest line this year was about 45 minutes and the average wait was probably under 30 minutes.  We never opened up the long entrance.  MF was usually between 1 and 2 hours during the weekdays and only over 2 on weekends.  Gemini is always under 15 minutes.  Raptor gets a line in the morning, but if you ride it in the late afternoon or early evening, you'll most likely be on in under an hour.  Mantis is usually fairly lineless at night (although it is one of the slower moving queues in the park).  Same goes for Mean Streak.  Iron Dragon and Blue Streak hardly ever go over an hour.  All of CP's major coasters are capable of handling between 15,000 and 20,000 guests per day (2001 high for Magnum was 23,094 on a Saturday in June with no downtime and no setups).  I'd like to see all these parks that people speak of with "short" lines come close to that capacity.

P.S. TR:TR2002, I was there everyday this summer and I can tell you it was never 107 in Sandusky this summer.  In fact, Sandusky's all time record high is 105 according to weather.com.  I agree that it can get hot, but just be glad you're riding and not working as hard as you can to push a bunch of ungrateful guests through the lines as fast as we possibly can.  (although 99% of guests are very appreciative of the work we do there's always a few...)

Actually it was on July-15-2001, Before I left for CP I watched the weather forcast and it called for a high of 107 that day not counting the humidity so actually yeah MDOimnis, and if you say it was 105 then i was off by 2 degrees sorry but that's what the weather channel said sorry to burst your bublle!
-----------------
MDOimnis, yeah your right I encountered a few unhappy guests when waiting in a tramendously long line for Raptor.  Must of been the heat. LOL  Oh yeah, did you opperate any specific ride or rides this summer, if yes, what?

TR:TR2002, with your continued comments, you keep digging the hole deeper, buddy.

According to weather.com  http://www.weather.com/weather/climatology/USOH0855.htm?dayofyear=195 the all-time record high for July 15th was 97° in 1974.  Check it for yourself.
Also, there is another site, www.wunderground.com that has historical weather information they have Toledo and CLeveland.  Granted, they are both an hour away, but according to the site, 7/15/2001 had a high of 85 in Toledo  http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KTDZ/2001/7/15/DailyHistory.html   and 89 in Cleveland  http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KCLE/2001/7/15/DailyHistory.html I find it (extremely) hard to believe that it could have been 15 degrees warmer at CP when it lies in-between both locations.

Sorry for my comment didn't meen for everybody to go bolistic over a few degrees!!!  Let me rephrase that, "Plus it WAS blistering hot that day and it was miserable especially when I had to wait 2 1/2 hours on Manis/ longest wait of the day, and it turned out to stink not because of the layout, but because of the trim break on the first drop."  HEy, sry again for making everybody mad cause it wasn't the right tempature but it was extremely hot and Was above 100 becuase my mom fainted at 11 a.m. and with the humidity it was well above 100, just because the site says it was 97 that doesn't count the humidity.  Now can we stop fussing over some stupid temperature and get back on subject as to why "some" of CP's lines stink like a cab drivers armpitt!
-----------------
It wasn't even 97.  The last time it was 97 was in 1974.  Last year, it was 89 degrees in Toledo with a dew point in the low 50's.  Heat Indicies are not calculated for temperatures when the Dew Point is less than 60.  Check for yourself at http://www.weatherlord.com/weather/calculator/heatindex/

redman give it up I don't care what the temperature is, it's not a big deal.  I don't know if the weather channel has a chat directory but here we talk about coasters not the weather!

*NEWSFLASH*

Lines at amusement parks tend to fluctuate due to the time of year, weather, number of trains running etc...

So, believe it or not, getting into a pissing match of "CP LINES SUCK!!" and "CP'S LINES ARE GREAT!!!" is just not going to do much good.

I went the week/weekend after the 4th of July and MF had wait times from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. The avarage was around 40 minutes for the many times i rode it all morning, day and night. Everything else was pretty much easy walk-ons inclunding Magnum XL-200. Mag. was too easy of a walk on for even the front seat.

I may be from IL, but i sure can't get enough of the FORCE. MF!!!
Does anyone know any park that always keeps their train op as high as possible whether they are busy or not? Only because it's my home park, I know PKI usually has full operation most of their coasters at all times: on The Racer(4 train), Vortex(3 train), Adventure Express(3 train), The Beast(3 train), Top Gun(2 train), SOB(2 train, but could run three), FOF(2 train, can run 3, but the line is worth it to keep the MC brake open, IMO), and then Face/Off, and all the kiddie coasters usually have full op. King Cobra only ran one train for the majority of the 2001 season and the lines did get considerably long. I guess this had something to do with maintenance, but I don't know. We've also heard that there's a possibility for it to be removed in the near future.

Overall, I know CP keeps their operations as high as possible for everything, but I don't know why there can be lines over 2 or even 1 hour because of all the ride ops, capacity, and rides they have. It either means that most people only really like to go on particular rides(say MF, Magnum, Raptor, PT, and Mantis) which is why they're so popular and the flat rides aren't that busy or something else. Can someone help me on this one? Maybe I always go on busy days. I assume Mean Streak doesn't have lines out the entrance every day. Come to think of it, MF has never been the longest wait when I've been to the park. I think I'd five that award to Mantis. In its fifth year, the lines were still over 2 and 1/2 hours long on a Saturday. Hmm....

I thought FOF had four trains
I don't go to big parks in the summer for that very reason. I like to ride over and over so I prefer to go to the packed parks when they are less crowded or at least on weeekdays. Last year I went to CP in September and rode MF 11 times in 6 hours and never waited more than 10 minutes each time. I also rode everything else that was open on that Halloweekends Friday. Next day the line for MF was 1 hour all day long.  PKI that Sunday was much worse but still tolerable.

Here in Florida, lines can get real bad but if you plan things the right way in advance you can do all you want with minimal waits. The key to all this is planning.

Like some said it all depends on the days that the person was there. I went for two days in the 2000 season and the first day there was lines over 30mins for the major coasters such as Raptor which was 2hrs,Mantis,which was 45mins, MF which was 4hrs and 30mins,Magnum which was 35mins,Mean streakwhich was 35mins and disaster transport which had a wait time for 35mins. But the second day i was there MF line was under 2hrs and and everything was less then 30mins. As for me i only got to ride Mf twice on my second day there becuase there was no way i was waiting 4hrs!
Those who only waited 45 minutes for MF opening year were very lucky. I stayed for two days near the end of July 2000 and the shortest wait was an hour and 10 minutes at night. The two other waits were an hour and 30 minutes. Magnum was also averaging an hour. The three waits that weren't so pleasant for me were for Disaster Transport, Power Tower, and Mantis. Otherwise, I thought things were quite good. Before we bash Six Flags altogether, I would put the crew on Nitro (and many of SFGA's rides) up against CP's crew anyday.
-------------
If you have to figure out how to ride a coaster to be comfortable, then that's not a coaster worth riding.
If you folks don't like lines for the good rides at CP then you should have taken advantage of that wonderfull experience known as Millennium Mania.  There was about a 15 minute wait TOPS for MF the day two days I went.  Nothing was busy and I had a total blast.  Unfortunately there probably won't be a MM this year due to lack of attendance but hey, here's to wishing.

God please let SFKK get something in 2002. ANYTHING!!

Any day when it's raining in both Cleveland and Detroit yet not in Sandusky....

Wow... 23,094 guests on Magnum, in a day is pretty darn good... perhaps it could have be the great, fast moving crew. :)

Koaster King, The reason why Cedar Point operations is running at tops all the time and there is still long waits is because they do pump more people through the rides during a hour, so those people get off and ride something else. Despite whether rides are running at tops, if you have 30,000 people in a park, it is just a matter of distribution.
