Lift Hills

i dont get it, i always thought that magnums chain was pretty fast, it didnt take that long to get up to the top when i went on it 3 months ago...  i thought the slowest ive seen was the steel phantoms, on the pov video its going *really* slow...

I doubt the lift on Wolf stops like Bull's, because Batman's just slows, and with that being newer, well, You get my drift.

All of SFMM's slow down if a train is not on it as well as slow at the top. Flashback is the only one that turns completly off.
When I worked at the Adventuredome, on slow days we would turn the lift of on the Rim Runner when no one was on the ride casue the person standing at the lift could get a serious headache.
Speaking of Tire Drives. The Intamin designed, Arrow expanded Lightning Bolt at MGM does something really cool. Like Reptar the wheels on the lifts dont start turning until the train is right near it.

"Do all Sharwkoph loopers have extemely slow lifts like Laser @ Dorney Park?"

I don't recall that Scorpion at BGT was all that slow... it was "average". At Hersheypark, the sooperdooperlooper has a rather fast lift hill. You start off slow, but then, after the entire train clears the station, you kick into high gear and move along pretty fast.

Nah, Scorpion *WAS* really slow when I rode it in March. SDL though was quite a bit faster.

This is known in some parts of the Muslim world as compassionate conservatism
I think that slowing the lift allows for less wear on the chain itself as the train engages or disengages from it.

S:ROS at SFDL speeds up when the whole train is on it. It also has boosters before the lift hill.

I didn't time it, but I imagine Steel Dragon 2000 has the longest lift in existence.  It is an incredibly long lift, and I would wager it is over a minute and a half to the top.  To make matters worse, the cars slow at the top, which is quite effective because it makes the anticipation level rise to an incredible rate.  Very sweet...

Steel Dragon 2000 has 2 lift chains of the  lift hill. I saw it on Making of a Coaster on the Discovery Channel. Do any other coasters have this?
I know that both hypers I have been on (AC and Titan) have considerably faster lifts than other coasters. Shockwave (SFoT) is the slowest I've been on, like stopped, both times I've ridden the coaster. Loch Ness is another real slow one, I believe that AC climbs its lift in less time than Loch Ness even though it is close to twice the size.
Does anyone know the angle that MF travels at up the lift hill?

MF lift hill is at a 45 degree angle and is an extremely efficient and fast lift hill.
It goes up at 45 degrees, comes down at 80 degrees, and the speed of the lift is 13 mph, not 12 mph...just thought I'd point that out. :)

Mayday - Memorial Day Weekend - Nonpoint, Nickelback, Oleander, Staind
Ozzfest - June 8 - Drowning Pool, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Black Sabbath
Awake Tour- June 15 - Darwin's Waiting Room, Puddle of Mudd, Deftones, Godsmack

yea MF's lift was really fast so fast there is no time to get parnoid becuase less then 30 secs later your flying over the top and droping 300ft at 80degress.I also thing its better when the lift hills go faster becuase like on Mf when your going that fast and you get in the back seat you fly over the top your just out of ur seat and its unbelivable.
Thanks for that info sethman and mrmightmouse... I thought it was 45 degrees but I wanted to make sure.  That means through calculations it only takes 22.2516119953808661524741232830197 seconds to reach the top of the hill!

I agree that Disaster Transport is the slowest.  It is probably no more than 40 feet tall, yet it takes at least a minute.  It is also incredibly loud.
The tire-driven lift on PKI's Rugrats Runaway Reptar is cool.  The individual sets of tires don't start spinning until the car is inches in front of them.

I agree to that!

Millennium Force: The 8th Wonder of the World!

The Schwarzkopf double loop at SFoT, Shockwave, has an extremely slow (and extremely wonderful) lift hill.
I read somewhere up there that someone thinks Titan has a slow lift, I think you were just excited . Titan takes roughly one minute to climb 245 feet.

OMG!!! Magnum and Steel Phantom are (were) sooooooooooo slooooooow. Yuk. I think Magnum takes like a min and 45 sec to climb. Ugh. I like the 20second MF lift.
You know.......how slow the lift is can depend on how the cycle times are going too. Like if the trains are not quite hitting interval (like Iron Dragon) the lift will slow down so that it buys the ride some time, before it sets up.
