Led Zeppelin coaster will be featured at Hard Rock Park

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The creators of the Hard Rock theme park, under construction in Myrtle Beach, S.C., will announce details today of the park's signature ride: a 150-foot-tall steel roller coaster with a Led Zeppelin theme. The looping attraction is one of more than 40 rock 'n' roll-themed amusements planned for the 140-acre theme park. It's scheduled to open in spring 2008.

^Me too, Moosh. Stats mean NOTHING to me. The coaster either "feels" good or it doesn't. That's all that matters to me. :)

<<<<<the godfathers of punk Bad Religion who have a new cd coming out in June. >>>>

well, wrong forum, i love those guys, but i think the 'godfathers' of punk may be more along the lines of iggy pop, mc5... ramones, blondie at the least punk is little diff than 'hardcore' (in some ways the stones, just dont tell anyone)

And well you can't forget The Sex Pistols (which would be great name for a dueling/racing themed coaster). Might not go over so well in a family themed park though.

they definately need to have a ACDC coaster soon!
The hyper coaster rumor was probably started when one of the investors or managers of the park mentioned in a magazine article (forgot which one) that he was working on a coaster for the park with a 200 foot vertical drop but this was like last 6-7 months ago when the article was published and he could have be possibly talking about a future coater. Either that or HRP scaled the ride down a little and made it s 150 foot ride instead. I wonder what the height restriction is for HRP because of the airport nearby.

Agreed Moosh. The statistical difference between oG's Goliath and Nitro would favor Nitro but I gave the actual nod to Goliath, head and shoulders.
This would be a cool coaster to test the "Hollywood Dream" technology state-side. That would be awesome, pick a Zeppelin song to listen to, plus the awesome lighting package and what not. It would fit perfectly at this park.
Come on Moosh. We all like coasters for different reasons. I like coasters that disorient my sense of direction somewhat better than I like coasters that just go fast and high.

For instance, I would much rather ride Hersheypark Wildcat once than ride Top Thrill Dragster three times. (I would really complicate my tastes if I told you that I like Hypercoasters for different reasons than coasters with a lot of changes in direction.)

And I, being a unique individual, stand by my observation that the my first look at the Led Zeppelin Coaster's layout seems uninspired to me. I also like tracks with turns rather than the perfect oval shaped tracks when playing a driving game on my PS2.

...But I do understand where you, Andy, and Tina are coming from. After riding this coaster, I might decide that it was enjoyable, but I would still think the layout sucks.

I forgot to mention how short the rest of the ride is after the MCBR. Just a curved drop, a flatspin, and you're done. Close your eyes and imagine riding the coaster.

well wouldn't wanna start an argument... but always thought the brit punk thing was mocking the ny thing, and very secondary.

if lots of people who were taking their kids to ride the zeppelin coaster knew some of the things that band did! such heathens ;)

Hell yeah! AC/DC would be a great theme! shoot to thrill, long way to the top, live wire...

I totally agree with dexter, it's a very uninspired B&M layout. I really can't figure out why they haven't at least had 2 heartline rolls on one ride. but the public loves them, and they 'work' well and are dependable - high capicity too. I really think alot of old Arrow coasters would top them if they would get rid of the shoulder bars a-la Premier.

This is pretty awesome. I can't speak for all college students, but THIS college student is a huge zep fan. I'm not entirely fond of classic rock as a genre, but Zeppelin was so creative/amazing in everything they did, it is hard not to be a fan. It is rare to find a really commercially successfull band that also appeals to someone like me who digs originality and such.

And on that note, I think I have to agree with the lady who said her son listens to Zep, Floyd, and The Who, but not other classic rock bands. That is because Aerosmith and AC/DC suck. That is all.

Ohh, and I'm just hoping they play the songs backward so we can hear the supposed satanic messages... I just had to throw that in there somewhere.

Honestly, I love when there is music playing on a ride, even when it is bad music. This is just a step up from that, especially if they find a way to put Achilles last Stand on the ride.

I don't disagree with you Dex. I just prefer to wait until I've ridden to proclaim a ride a winner or a dud.

I think they sort of fed off each other. According to "End of the Century", a Ramones documentary DVD, they never had any popularity until they went to England to perform. They would play large venues there then come back to NYC and play little dive bars. Anyway, there's no denying that Zep was mocking the Mississippi blues. That's where rock all stems from to begin with anyways...be it the NY scene, England, or what have you. It all goes back to Mississippi.

<<<Aerosmith and AC/DC suck. That is all.>>>>

well, aerosmith may suck and are easy to make fun of. but AC/DC only sucks after 1979, after the original (well, pretty much) lead singer died. After that, all the music is the same and very boring lyrics.

I totally agree with you thrillerman1, i think most rock music can be traced back to africa as a matter of fact, or something like that.

I think a great idea, I know it's been brought up before on here, is to have a whole park dedicated to rock n roll. hard rock park? well, it was be sellable. but to be truly rock and roll, you have to include so much more.*** This post was edited by J7G3 4/16/2007 9:45:19 PM ***

oh hell yeah!!! this is going to be great! best 2 bands of all time are Led Zeppelin and Rush. and yeah, i agree, a medley of songs on this ride will be the way to go. man i love phish, the dead, and all those other jam bands, but NO ONE jammed as well as zeppelin, listen to some of the released live stuff or bootleg live recordings for proof.

now we just need a coaster with Rush's YYZ or 2112 Overture/Temples Of Syrinx!!

and yeah, AC/DC rocks!
