Lawyer wants answers in Knott's death

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

A lawyer representing the family of the victim who died on Montezooma's Revenge says he wants closure for the family. While no suit has been filed, the brother of the victim says that the park should be responsible.

[Ed. note: I'd like to briefly comment that I expect the family to be angry and upset about the death of a family member. I sincerely regret their loss. However, the opportunistic lawyer is the type of person who gives those who practice law a bad name. The investigation hasn't even been concluded, and already she's talking about legal action. What makes her intention so obvious is her statement that, "These rides are being built bigger, higher, faster and more dangerous." That's playing into the emotional hype over ride safety. People in the know realize that the ride in question is 23-years old, with 44 million rides. That's hardly "bigger, higher, faster and more dangerous." -Jeff]

It's apparent that the attorney wants to try this in the press, not a courtroom. I agree that if Cf brings in the big guns they'll more than likely fold when they realize what the expenses are going to be.

"Lawyer said family wants "closure"
how much $$$ will that "closure" cost?
I get SO po'd when I read about these money hungry lawyers going after amusement parks when time and time again it has been shown that the majority of accidents are caused by the GUEST.
In this instance (do we even know the autopsy results yet?) it was an pre-existing condition.
Lets say this same person died while waiting in line at WalMart-does an attorney then sue WalMart because it happened it that store? PLEEEASE!
For the most part lawyers are lower than a snake's belly, they have NO morals and it is no wonder the price of everyone's insurance (the HONEST people) keeps going up and up. Next we'll see Johnny Cockran hanging around Millennium Force..yikes!

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight?

Closure comes from acceptance.  Lawsuits are a form of denial.
Don't worry I have word that OSHA has cleared Monty, the ride is back up and running. As far as the death goes, let's wait and see what happens. There is more to this than is being let out.
Monty will rule supreme (and so will CF) in the courtroom and in front of the story - hungry press. Nuff said.
See that's the problem, so much focus is being put into proving that Monty is not at fault, and proving the press wrong. I do know that OTSR may be put on Monty, if this happens I would'nt be suprised, but will have to wait and see.
Sad fact of it is, more often than not, a large company will settle out of court even when they are NOT in the wrong, just to keep the press to a minimum and court costs too. Lawyers know this and will file suit just to see if they can get the out of court settlement. I would expect in the near future to see these signs ammended once again to state:

WARNING: Pre-existing medical conditions may be aggrivated while on this ride. Consult a physician before riding.

I to can see the signs changing to state this but before too long you will need a medical certificate just to go on a ride.  And anyway, how are you to know that you have something like a brain clot unless you go to the docts and tell them to test for it.  Lawyers really are the only shark that can survive on land.
