Lapbars on Arrows

I think everyone is forgetting the GP side of the issue.  Are members of the GP really going to notice if Viper at SFMM has lap bars rather than OTSR?  Probably not.  Sure, enthusiasts in this forum would really think it is great, but members of the GP aren't really going to have an opinion.  Especially those who only visit a park one or two times a year.  (Personally, I think this represents most people who visit parks.)  I would bet that the overall ridership on FoF didn't improve that much after installing lap bars.  Enthusiasts often have a hard time remembering that parks are going to be more interested in bringing in more of the GP, not more enthusiasts.

Never been on an Arrow Suspended coaster huh? Nor one of the Vekoma inverted rollerskaters (e.g. Runaway Reptar).

...Not to mention the Zyklon at Fun Spot, and a number of others, especially in Asia.....

I haven't decided yet whether I think the Morgan lap bars on Phantom's Revenge would be secure for a looper or not.....Personally, I think it ought to be possible to develop a drop-down lap bar kind of like what we see on the Setpoint coasters or on some aerial tramways. Not sure if there is enough real estate in the cars to allow for that, though. The bar could be attached to the shoulder bar pivot, though......

also, i dont know about the B&M dive machine in Austrailia, but Oblivion at AT in England has a full shoulder restraint....and it has no inversions.  and its not because of its near vertical drop either....Hypersonic XLC has a complete 90 dgree vert drop, and it has just lap and ankle bars on it....so thats just one of those things in the coaster industry we just cant explain...jeremy way to go on noting the Arrow suspended models...totally forgot about those :)

You wouldn't have to advertise it as a new coaster...  lines beget lines.  Re-rides will keep more people on the ride, more people in line, more people off of the midway, etc.  It doesn't matter how old a ride is, as long as it's fun.  People will wait in line for a 1920's woodie as long as they will for a 1990's B&M.  It's all in the ride.

The perfect site for this would be Drachen Fire... you're not jsut retrofitting an old ride here, you're pretty much adding a coaster for the price of some restraints.

When Paramount re-did  fof  the only said that the hope we like the improvements to the ride     thats all the "advertising" that need be done
vacoasterfreak, there isn't a B&M dive machine in Australia.  There is one in Taiwan, G5, and yes it does have OTSRs.  The vertical coaster in South Africa looks like it only has lap bar reatraints (Shaft of Terror and not a B&M).
