Knowledge of Coasters, Amusement Parks, etc.

I was wondering where people place themselves on this board. Some people understand, and have a much better knowledge for all the hoopla in this business than others. I find that this can be seen when you read other people post on this website, as well as other sites. Some of the questions that people ask are just dumb. The rumors that people fall for at times are ridiculous. The comparisons I come accross are similar to apples and oranges. Tell me how wise you all are when it comes to the industry. Rate yourself 1 to 10 if you will, but give me an understanding. It is alright to critique the members who think they know stuff too, because I find it hard to believe that some people call themselves coaster enthusiast when they ask and say some of the things they do.

I'm probably a 1 :)

I think the thing missing from most coaster enthusiasts' knowledge base is business sense. When you consider rumors, you can always draw more logical conclusions when you consider the dollar. A recent thread on Steel Phantom vs. Millennium Force was a good example. People thought Japan was out to get us but never once considered that they want to draw crowds and increase attendance just like Cedar Point.

As far as technical stuff and manufacturers, some people get really in to it, but it's all easy stuff to learn once you've been around it.

I'd say I'm a 7/8. We I just joined these boards, I was probably a 2/3, but I've caught on, and have much more knowledge about parks and coasters.
Other than knowing how much fun I have while enjoying the coasters, I probably am a 1. :(

Hey, at least you're still in touch with the most important thing!

I really don't wan to be cocky. I guess a 7 or 8. I know what people like, I have a good amount of knowledge about the business. I think I am best at interpreting my fun and others.
Well, there are 2 different types of people. Those who know, and those who THINK they know it all. You know who they/you are.

Those who know, don't disseminate too much information for confidentiality reasons, or out of respect to their insider contacts.

Those who THINK they know, all have an uncle, brother, father, etc... who work for a particular park, and just blurt out what ever pops into their heads.

Currently I am around a 2.5. That means I know enough to sound stupid...
What's a coaster?

Oh, yeah, Im easily a 10. I know everything there is to know about this stuff. Well, maybe. Heck I don't know or care what I am between 1 and 10. Question, does it really matter? But seeing the way I rate some coasters and parks, most would think I'm a 1.25.

I would give myself about a 6 or 7. Before joining GTTP as well as this site, my knowledge has grown. He stands about to my waist. (ESPNII commercials) :) Anyways, I probably was about a 1 when I joined. I just knew that I loved riding, but now I understand quite a bit.

I am about a 7 or so. I understand that parks are out to get the most people while spending the least amount of money to maximize profits for the owners.

I don't rate myself. I know what I know and thats all I know.

My knowledge of this industry has gone up since being on this site and GTTP. I would now put myself at a 4 or 5. Most of the topics I bring up are asking questions so I can get more info on these thrill rides. People like Jeff bring out certain factors in this business that I would never have even thought of. My lifestyle is busy so I dont have the luxury of venturing from one park to another but when I get the chance to visit a park with coasters I am in heaven.
When I joined I was probably a 1 or 2, but now I'm closer to a 6, I'd say. This site really has taught me a lot about all sorts of stuff about coasters. Plus I had to research coasters for speech class. :)
