Knott's getting VertiGo, general manager interviewed

Posted | Contributed by James Disney

WestCoaster/Bear-yTales is proud to have an interview with Jack Falfas, Vice President of West Coast Operations for Cedar Fair. It offers a look into the man, his job and Knott's Berry Farm.

We also have the press releases from Knott's Berry Farm for their upcoming S&S slingshot ride, VertiGo. The 265-foot tall ride is set to debut later this year.

We've also got a construction round-up from Knott's Berry Farm, continuing our on-site coverage of the deconstruction of Windjammer and the construction of their new ride when it happens!

Magic Mountain is also covered with photos from last Monday.

Okay, but how's this Jim, when you found out about this new ride, were you surprised at all? Or had you figured they would get something like that?
Good point. That's a fair question. Isn't it true, though Jim (you CAN answer this one), that down the road, Jack wants a hypercoaster for the park?

Please say a few things....
I don't mind there three S&S slingshots are being built.
These rides are not meant to be marquee attractions, and be advertised to get people to come to the parks.
They mostly are built to make money from the guests already at the park.

Yes... I was surprised on certain aspects of it. But the overall ride had already been revealed to me by someone else from the park. They were rather wrong on a few of the specifics.

Jack is absolutely wants a hyper coaster in the park. However it's not happening in 2002. I've spoken with him now on several occasions, and the one thing he's told me a few times is that a hyper coaster is a staple at the large Cedar Fair parks. Knott's will get a hyper, however, even I don't know when!

I'm glad everyone's so excited about the possibilities for the new ride and the overall tone of the management at Knott's. I've personally been so thrilled to be involved with this whole process and I'm amazed at how nice they've all been to me. I am personally so excited at the direction the park is taking and I'm very confident that they will continue to fortify Knott's position as a world class theme park while keeping the older traditions of Knott's alive.

...and not that he needs it but I'll back Jim Disney up. Jack has said on many occasions that he wants a hyper but told me in the company of witnesses what the 2002 coaster will be. It is not a hyper.
Will it have a maximum height requirement? That's a question that's been killing me for some time. I will seriously be disappointed if that is the case. Otherwise, I am excited about the new ride, and the proposition of a hyper sometime in the future. *** This post was edited by saviourmachine on 7/26/2001. ***
Being a former employee of Jack's I can attest to what a QUALITY person he is.
I find it interesting his comments about MF at CP...He stated that a 300 foot coaster was in the works before he left in 1997...This remark just gives you a perspective on how far in advance parks have to plan.
Jack said the new ride (presumably an Intamin coaster, not a Hyper though) would 'borrow' some elements from MF. The only ones that come into mind are the cable-lift, 122º overbanked turns, magnetic braking & stadium-seated trains (anything else?)

Rather puzzling isn't it? I can see a Megalooper with those elements. Some people have said it can't be a LIM coaster due to competition (CS, V² & S:TE) & power requirement.

On the other hand, it could be the first full-circuit Inverted in the US. I can see one of these at Knott's; www.bellingham.fi/huvipuis/ukmetro.htm It wouldn't make sense to get a Sit-Down Coaster as there are plenty in the area along with CS.

Or it could be a new S/D Shuttle Coaster. It seems to me the park misses the Corkscrew & want a suitable replacement. What do you think?

Patience is definitely a virtue. :)
An intamin inverted would definitely be cool, but in all honesty, isn't one of the details of the ride the fact that 'we haven't seen it before?'

I agree, though, something like Metro would definitely be cool.

Speaking of this when are we going to here annoucements from Cedar Fair shortly???
