Knott's completes Xcelerator's circuit

Knott's has completed the circuit for their third major full circuit coaster, Xcelerator. With only a month to go before the planned opening Knott's must continue at the furious pace to finish the rest of the attraction.

Visit Twisted Rails and ACN for the photos.

Well, it looks like I'll need to make a little visit.

Don't let the pictures fool ya. I just saw this thing yesterday. It's freekin' huge!

To those who think that this ride could have been lengthened, I have to laugh because that is VERY hard to accomplish, given that Xcelerator is bigger than what stood before it (Soap Box Racers ; Windjammer). The only way that I see it extended would be to add an actual inversion to the compact layout. Going out and around the Sky Tower would require a large hill to go over either the station or the main acceleration track. That would have to be a 90 degree right angled turn to the right, or another overbanked turn that levels out above the large walkway around that area. I dont see why you would want it to go around the tower in the first place, because that would require a lot of that area to be closed for a while. It's alright I guess that the supports for Boomerang are touchable by guests, but Xcelerator, too? At least Boomerang has the supports controlled. Xcelerator's supports would look real odd in that area. Another thing wrong with that idea is that the ride would burn too much speed, and probably not be able to complete the track.

Few people actually liked the Parachutes, as I did, but the tower looks great without them. Adding a rollercoaster track around it would make it lose the feel for the nostalgia. Ruin a landmark for a new ride? Uh uh, I don't think so.

All I can say about this rollercoaster, is that it will be an exhilarating experience to travel up then straight back down 100 - 200 feet of unsupported track at such a high altitude,.
