Knott's completes Xcelerator's circuit

Posted | Contributed by Karl DeAngelo

Knott's has completed the circuit for their third major full circuit coaster, Xcelerator. With only a month to go before the planned opening Knott's must continue at the furious pace to finish the rest of the attraction.

Visit Twisted Rails and ACN for the photos.

This ride will probably be as short as Superman at SFMM.
I cant believe that you all are already criticizing its lack of elements. When hypersonic XLC came out, it was much more of a one trick pony. Everybody absolutely loved it. This ride takes what that ride did. It is bigger, it is faster, it has a twisting tower, and 2 overbanked turns.
Well said man.
The new Knotts ride could use more ride length.. they've got plenty of room for it...
It does look like a fun ride, but I agree with others that have said it that its too short. It does look like they had the room to make it a lot lengthier. I am just wondering why they didn't. Do you think they have other idea's planned for the remaining land? How much room did Windjammer take up? I'd still like to ride it.

Yes, the ride is short(we knew that). It's no shorter than Mr. Freeze, Hypersonic, Montezooma's Revenge, Speed:The Ride or any number of other launch coasters, but it looks three times better than any of those other rides.

Now tell me, where is all this extra room you guys are talking about?

Wow... There is a surprising lack of support on that first element.

But with that supreme latticed Intamin track, it can easily support itself.

Don't worry about the unfavorable comments, by looking at their posts number, I don't think that they contribute too much to the conversation around here.

I think this just reaffirms the fact that Intamin continues being the leader in new coaster technology and prototypes.

Sept. 11th 2001, Slayer released God Hates Us All. The song "Disciple" uncannily describes the events of that day, as well as the anthrax letters that followed.

You Haters just crack me up ...

Have you forgotten what was standing there before this?

This 1000000 times better!

PS. Its so short its probably a two train operation anyway. It'll probably run one like Hypersonic until the glitches are ironed out which will make for one helluva slow line.

Any stats on ppl/hour?

Do you think we'll get the same air as Hypersonic over the top hat on Xcellerator?

If Lifes a Rollercoaster, I want a Flawless

The park is saying 1330 pph I believe with 2 train op on Xcelerator. I imagine you will get a good ammount of air time on Xcelerators top hat but I can't compare it to Hypersonic because I haven't rode any of 'em.

I dont understand where you people think there is more room in that spot, it is ALL filled up. **Is remembering back in the days when Xcelerator was announced and people were convinced a MF clone would go behind it, at least the station along with Xcelerator. HA!**

What they're saying is a couple more overbanks, hills & even inversions can be squeezed into the current space. Think spaghetti bowl coasters, a lot of track packed in a tiny area.
If I did my math correct just now (forgive me - I didn't get much sleep last night and just got home from working all day), to hit 1330 people per hour they'd have to launch apx. every minute-fifteen to minute-twenty seconds. Sounds feasible to me... assuming the restraints don't take forever to fasten/check...

More overbanked turns = more track and supports = more money = Cedar Fair saying, "not this time". ;)

Easy. First, there's no reason that it has to stay contained in the Windjammer/Soap Box plot. At the point where the break run begins, I would have instead continued the helix a bit more to the right and then head south straightening out across the midway. I would have then brought it down to near ground level in a helix around the Sky Cabin tower. (I would move (Yet again!) the Wipeout and tear down the store across from Boomerang to accomodate this.) Then the helix would continue between the tower and back of the nearby fast food place, after which it would do a floater back over the midway. After that there is plenty of room to add some ground level helix or bunny hops under either overbank. It would mean moving the line for the ride somewhere else...but that could have been done either underground or over the ride in parts. Or the station could have been made a little larger. It would have been more expensive, but doable. Not to say the current layout won't be awesome. It will, but still not quite what it could have been. And doing my idea would at least make loosing the parachutes worth something. Games and rock climbing aren't a worthy use for that land. I want coaster track wrapped around that tower! :)

Coasterbuf, that all sounds great, for a hypercoaster, which Xcelerator is not. Also consider tha fact that Knott's has limited space, how do we know Knott's doesn't have long term plans for the rest of that area? I do wish the ride were longer but understand that parks plan for long term, they don't blow all their space on one ride. Still, 0-82 and a mind blowing top hat is enough to get me jumping back in line. ;)

Only if this baby could of been up and running for Spring Break. :( Still, Xcelerator looks to be one great ride!

Hopefully I'll make it out to California sometime in the next couple of years. :)

AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally saw it in person today and it truly looks so much better in person. I think its amazing how they got it into such a small area, I personally don't see that much more room to have made it longer.
Hey, if it were in my home park I'd ride it. You can say this: It isn't likely to be cloned.
The ride looks like a great but very short experience, The high reverse top hat and the 2 overbanked turns. But what a waste of space and momentum. They could have did so much more with the layout, making it like the spaghetti bowl coasters without the inversions.
