But, Kraxel is a fanboy and there's no arguing with a fanboy.
All I have to say, is that I had a kick ass week in SoCal 2 weeks ago. Did an amazing 16 hour day at Disney (Rode every single ride in both parks and did the mountanis twice), and even did unexpected trips to Knotts and Belmont.
I never even gave SFMM a second thought. Wasn't worth my time, which is sad. I wish it was...I don't hate the place..I wish it was good!
The coasters
Viper - Boomerang No real comparison
Batman - Silver Bullet I actually like them both. Batman is intense and Silver bullet is smooth as butter but rather forceless
Ghoast Rider - Psyclone - Colosus I do agree with everyone that The wood at Magic is horrible
Superman - Xcelerator I just love this ride
Montezomas Revenge - Revolution - Gold rusher Montesomas Revenge just suck, I like gold rushers and Revolutions out of control feel much better
Jaguar - Timberline Twister - Goliath jr Jaguar only because it's the only big, little kid ride in this category
Not to mention the extra stuff
Riddler, Goliath, X, Scream, deja vu, Ninja, LoL Shockwave
Maybe my visits this year have been all luck because I haven't had a terrible time at all with closed rides other than shockwave nor had extended wait times due to single train operation. Every ride has been operating very well.
Colossus/Psyclone vs. Ghostrider - Knotts wins
Superman vs. Xcelerator - Knotts wins
Jaguar/Timberline vs. Goliath Jr - Knotts wins
Batman vs. Silver Bullet - TIE
Gold Rusher/Revolution vs. Montezooma - SFMM wins.
Knotts: 3 wins, 1 tie
SFMM: 1 win, 1 tie
But even if SFMM had THE BEST coasters on the planet it is still a park that doesn't offer a well-rounded experience:
1. Flat Rides. You have to admit that Knotts wins in the flat ride category. SFMM has not added a flat ride in at least 10 years and has continually removed flats, while Knotts continues to add new flats.
2. Water Rides. Plunge is better than Tidal Wave; Timber Mtn. Log Ride is better than eithe flumes at SFMM; only Raging Rapids wins in this category.
3. Employees. While Knotts is far from perfect here every time I've been to SFMM in the last 5 years the employees there have been apathetic, slow, and unfriendly. I've had numerous employees at SFMM cut in front of me in line [I have witnesses to this] and that has NEVER happened to Knotts.
4. Ride availability. How many rides are *always* closed at SFMM day in and day out? I can name three off the top of my head. How many rides are *always* closed at Knotts day in and day out? I can't name any.
5. Food. Five words make Knotts the winner here: Mrs. Knotts Chicken Dinner Restaurant. Here's three more: Ghost Town Grill. Other than Mooseburger Lodge the only other good eatery is Laughing Dragon Pizza but its been closed on my last 1/2-dozen visits.
I'm glad people enjoy SFMM. I'm glad you like the park. But I enjoy more than just coasters so for me Knotts is the winner.
Colossus/Psyclone vs. Ghostrider - Knotts wins
I agree on the wood, Knott's all the way!
Superman vs. Xcelerator - Knotts wins
I agree here as well, Supes was a disappointment.
Jaguar/Timberline vs. Goliath Jr - Knotts wins
I can't comment here, didn't ride Timberland or Goliath or the othe Kiddie at SFMM
Batman vs. Silver Bullet - TIE
Not for me. Silver Bullet is way above Batman (the 2 I've ridden) on my list, but YMMV.
Gold Rusher/Revolution vs. Montezooma - SFMM wins.
I'd rather ride Monte all day long than either Gold Rusher or a Butchered Revolution. To me, Gold Rusher was just boring, and Revolution could have been fantastic, but not anymore, so Knott's wins this one for me.
I Will say one thing about food at Knott's and SFMM, I can't say one is much better than the other on my exp. I ate at Panda express at SFMM, and it was really good. I didn't get to go to Mooseburger. Granted, it is a franchise, but still, it was good (happy now moosh?;))
Still, Knott's is better. Even if SFMM is 'all about the coasters', Knott's had IMO, better, more reliable coasters. Not to mention the staff was better, the park was cleaner, more rides were running, everything was painted, Knott's has way more newer, better flats. Knott's wins hands down.
And mind you, this is coming from someone who had their first visit to both parks a day apart, recently, so if you want the opinion of what you should do on your first time to either park, take it from a recent first time, and not a local/regular.;) *** Edited 8/3/2005 6:33:58 AM UTC by TeknoScorpion***
