Knott's accelerates Xcelerator construction, California Adventure announces two attractions

Posted | Contributed by James Disney

Work is moving forward with site preparation for Xcelerator at Knott's Berry Farm. Large frames have been set up around a large tower footer as they prepare to finish pouring it. They are also continuing Ghostrider's bi-annual rehab with some track work and extending the shed covering over the drop.

California Adventure also formally announced the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Flik's Fun Fair at a small event before park opening. Both Disneyland Resort President Cynthia Harriss and Walt Disney Imagineering's Barry Braverman were on hand to make the announcement.

I don't understand why Knott's doesn't just tunnel off Ghostrider's first drop. It would completely shut up the whiny neighbors, not to mention it would certainly look a hell of a lot better.

I don't think there's ever been a wooden coaster which began with a dark descent down a dark tunnel before.

Its not the neighbors that are complaining. Its the Hotel for the most part.
Well... it's both... either way... it's being done... and I almost agree with DWeaver, I think that'd be a blast!  As is, I love the back seat rush of being whipped over the top and having this "fin de capo" effect going on.  Great head chopper.  It'd probably be even better totally enclosed!

do we all think Xcelerator will be finished on schedule?
Those fins mounted on the track look like the fins usually mounted on the sides of the cars for the magnetic braking. Maybe Intamin has made some changes to thier braking system and will now mount the magnets on the cars?
The new TOT is really ugly- doesn't look mission style or like any other style that I've seen.

I would TOTALLY love to see Knotts enclose the first drop from about 3/4 of the way up the lift to the bottom of the first drop.  They could make it look like a mine shaft.  Imagine not knowing when the train was going to cut loose from the chain and plummet down the drop...especially from the back of the train!!
DWeaver- Tonnere De Zeus goes into a tunnel during its first drop.

Maybe Ghostrider's 1st drop will evenually be tunneled.  Could happen eventually.  It would be a great effect.

CFMatt - I think DWeaver meant a coaster with an entire first drop tunneled, not one that drops into a tunnel at the bottom.  I can think of quite a few coasters that have tunnels at the bottom of their drops.
I've checked out this site, and everything is good.. May want to can the Elvis bit; not very funny. Actually looks like one of the ignorant GP's. and is why they're trying to pass rider responsiblity laws.. For moronic acts... other then that all your material is GREAT!

Outsider,

I love the Elvis bit... sorry... not going away... it's fun and you're definitely in the minority there, people love it.  See, it's okay to have fun, as long as you're not being an idiot on a ride.  Moronic acts... yeah, like one-click rides on coasters (almost doesn't get any worse than that, might as well just jump out) and such things like that.  Not for people walking in a park with Elvis glasses on having fun while another person takes pictures of them doing that.

I'm all for RIDER responsibility laws... but see you contradict your whole point by saying that since it's for people riding the attractions.  We don't do stuff like that while riding attractions.

In this photo, looks to me the 'Wicked Twister' style supports are going to be built over where the two pits on the very left are. Have a look at the rendering. The large 'footer' could be the basement for the launch equipment.

I think you might be on to something there Taipan!  Good observation!

James Disney- but see you contradict your whole point by saying that since it's for people riding the attractions.  >>We don't do stuff like that while riding attractions.<<

If your for rider safety why would you picture Elvis wearing a birthday hat, and say it flew off during the ride? So it flys back and cuts someone in the back of the coaster, or takes out an eye.

I agree it's nice to have fun, heck I wish I could have more fun, but it's hard to have fun when it's 20 degrees outside. Great site, heck my kids may get a kick out of your site. Looks kinda fun for them.

I guess certain people don't understand jokes (you might want to re-read the caption)!  It was all a joke... heck, Erik Estrada is a constant butt of jokes on the site... (granted not as much lately... maybe I should change that).  We don't seriously do things that would purposefully put ANYONE (even ourselves) in any real danger.  Heck, I had the very hat in question tied to the camera bag as I took the photo of the train going by.  We're not stupid...

I just got done looking at your site again... you may wanna re-look at that "giant footer," that is where the Hydraulic system is going.. it's in the plans. Footers will go behind it. I don't know who your sources are, but you'd better cover yourself, now. Before people start to doubt you.

Um... yeah... thanks... kinda noticed that too... no biggie... people have been wrong before.  BTW, what's your thing out to get me or something.  It's kind of annoying.  Why don't you e-mail me... I think we have a discussion to carry on in private.  And if you don't... get off your high horse... even Twisted Rails has that listed as a footer... you seem to like them pretty good as well , however I haven't seen any corrections from you on his updates.

I will concede that you're right about that pit... simply an oversight on my part.  Big deal... it happens.  It's nice to be wrong every now and again... it reminds you that you're human and hence, imperfect.

My sources are my own personal information... sadly, I won't reveal things here.  Sorry...
