Knoebel's Whirlwind Update

We all know that Knoebel's Whirlwind was up for sale, but apparently, according to rcdb.com, it was sold to Parque de Diversiones in La Uruca, Costa Rica. While it's bittersweet to see this coaster go, hopefully it will be replaced by a much better ride.

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

Wow, I am surprised they sold that POS. I feel bad for the Costa Ricans....

I wonder if deconstruction started on the Hurlwind yet. Somthing tells me I may need to take a drive down there one of these days and see.

Dan - word from my sources is that a replacement coaster won't come until 2006. You're a Knoebels local...any word in the "streets?"

mOOSH, my *thinking* is that a "replacement coaster" in '06 does NOT mean that there won't be a new flat at KG in '05...I kinda expect a new flat for '05 to offset the loss of that *tremendous* Vekoma ride...LOL!

Obviously Dan might have something more....concrete...;)

I never said there wouldn't be a new ride in 05, Bill ;) Check the new topic!

Oh, so now yer tellin' me they DIDN'T just update the page because you were asking?

Likely story that is! ;)

I was also thinking the new coaster won't come till 06. I guess that leaves out GCII doing it since they have their hands full now. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a Schwarzie looper.

I was just wondering id they started to TAER down the Whilwind yet so they can ship it off to some other park.

I drove to Knoebels today to check on the status of the Whirlwind, after a quick stop at Sheetz for a MTO sub and gas. :)

It's still there. It doesn't look like they touched anything on the ride.

I didn't bother getting out of my car since I didn't see any cranes or other signs of deconstruction.

Mmmm...Sheetz. I used to be in Management there before I moved, ya know.

I could so use a buffalo chicken sub with parm. cheeze, green peppers, onions, and ranch dressing. Thanks, now you've made me hungry, and there ins't a sheetz for a couple hours, Darn You!

:)

Coasterpunk, you mean you bought gas there, or you stopped because you already had it? j/k

Hmmm, MTO subs.... actually anything without turkey in it sounds pretty good right now.

I had to get gas. Altough I'm usually filled with it any other time! :) You know you were low when your Sunfire takes $21 to fill the tank at $1.85 a gallon!

$1.85/gallon? Regular unleaded here is about $2.30/gallon...I'd love to pay $1.85 ;)
Just think how close you would be to Knoebels too Moosh!
More Importatnly, just think of how close you'd be to *ME*. And Moosh likes MTOs as well.

As far as Whirlwind Of Pain..........all I can say is GOOD RIDDANCE!

I'm assuming the Whirlwind will be dismantled sometime in December or early January, since most of the staff is busy with getting the park ready for winter into early December.
While its disappointing to see that we'll have to wait until 2006 for a major new ride, at least the two flats that are planned seemed to be worthwhile additions.
Besides, if the Knoebel family sticks with their original plan and build the new ride in 2006, then well, you all might as well make your hotel reservations now...
Stop It! Okay! Just freakin stop it! I don't want to hear anymore teases from you "People in the Know (TM)". Even though I've not yet been to Kneobles, I can't take it!

:)
