Knoebels and Hersheypark building new roller coasters for 2015, what about Dorney?

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

It seems 2015 will be the year for some unique new roller coasters in Pennsylvania. Hersheypark announced last week it will build a combination dark ride and roller coaster next year that will have elements of a fun house. Knoebel's amusement park, known for its wooden coasters, has said it will build a steel roller coaster with four inversions. So far, Dorney Park isn't giving hints about new rides for 2015.

Ha! Trick question! Nothing Dorney builds is actually "new."

Isn't Dorney still working on getting their last new (to Dorney at least) coaster working?

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"

Slow news day...

As with any other year...if you want to know what Dorney is getting, look at what the other CF parks are removing.

Maybe recycling bins?

Yes, Stinger has been closed the entire season except for part of opening day with no sign of it opening anytime soon.

Perfect! Get it running and it can be the new for 2015 attraction!

One "new this year" ride, successfully not operated each year, could be a park's new attraction each year for a decade or more. :-p

I thought Dorney was getting a "new" TOGO stand-up coaster, newly re-named "Great North Skyrider"? Or are they holding out on a stand-up for when CP removes Mantis?

But then again, what do I know?

If CP sent Mantis to Dorney, it will be one of the few times anyone will ever see my head spin around 365 degrees, and I'll projectile vomit green pea soup. I don't usually get angry about an addition to my home park, no matter what it is, but that one would definitely make me twitchy. Another waste of what little land Dorney has left? NO.

I'm calm now, I promise.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

I wouldn't mind getting that. Dorney used to have a flat ride very similar, and I like the 1001 Nacht ride (NO, I don't LOVE it like some ladies do) at Knoebels, so...actually, that would be a nice reboot for DP.

Is Dorney a candidate for a GCI somewhere down the road?

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Depends on which park is getting rid of theirs.

I have heard more than one rumor that a GCI is in the works for 2015, actually, but they're all from not-so-important people, so really I've heard no reliable sources spill any beans. Still, I think a GCI would be a perfect fit for the park, and I'd put money on this quicker than any other type coaster.

There's a used GCI that might be available up in the Ozarks....

What am I missing here? Does Dorney have any recycled coasters other than Possessed and Stinger? So maybe this park is willing to take on other parks' castoffs but I nevertheless think that Dorney is delightful and Talon is probably one of the best inverts in existence.

The carousel was relocated, as was Demon Drop. I believe the Lemon Chill stand may also have been brought in from another park... :~P

Gator, I didn't know the carousel was relocated. I always wondered why Dorney ended up with two carousels, and now I know. Huh...

That Dorney GCI has been rumored for as long as GCI has existed.
