I don't think the difference is knowledge. I think it is passion.

That's a great way of putting it.

It's not about how much you know, it's about how much you care.

And the 'GP' doesn't care about the little things nearly as much as forums like this would have you believe.

I don't use the term "GP" to put them down, I use it to put us down.

Do you really think being passionate about something inevitably means you become an obnoxious jackass about it? Like I said earlier, there's a whole spectrum of being an enthusiast of anything. I don't mind telling people I'm a roller coaster enthusiast. If they want to assume I'm a jerk ready to whip out an ACE card or quote the maintenance manual for a B&M inverted coaster, that's their problem. And likewise, if someone is shocked because I can't quote said maintenance manual, that's their problem as well.

Um, RGB - Does this mean you want me to leave the manuals at home for PPP? :)

Carrie M.'s avatar

Yeah, go ahead. He gets all of his coaster info from me, anyway. :)

Awww, man. I just had the 1994 edition re-bound in leather, too.

Are you still lugging those heavy, hard copy tomes around? I keep all those manuals online for convenience's sake. It's called Ride Man. ;)

Some of us prefer the actual media.

Bring it along. The seats on the train are awfully damn low.

No, but as with any group, a certain segment does and that segment somehow becomes the stereotype.

You never struck me as the type of person who would be bothered by what other people think.

It has nothing to do with identifying myself and everything to do with perspective.

I find the general attitude at the enthusiast end of the spectrum to be far more unrelatable than at the other end.

Which is why I said when I use the term "GP" around here, it's to point out the ridiculousness of enthusiast-think rather than to belittle the people who "don't know any better."

I'm putting words in Gonch's mouth, but when he says "put them down", I don't think he means "...because they are jerks" but "...because they can't relate to what is/is not important to Regular People."

So the new ride is going to be full of IEItRmA.

I love me some AIRtImE!

Raven-Phile's avatar

Well, to be fair, there was nothing said about it being full of anything. The clue was simply "IEItRmA". :)

Meh....

We all know what they are getting next year, and it's not a coaster. I can't wait to ride it. It's gonna be the "star" of the show next year.;)

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
