Kings Dominion - Awesome Day

-1 g's is certainly safe, yet still really intense.

Yes - this is for certain....but -1.0 is not safe for very long for the public. You have to remember these rides have to be able to take a normal person, and in the USA damned few are in good shape these days....have you looked around in the queue lines lately? LOL

I don't think any amusement park ride is more likely to cause a red out than an S@S sky swatter. If your simply hung upside down the blood is being pushed into your head with the same force it would be pushed into your feet if your upright...1g. The acceleration of the ride is only going to add to the force the blood is applying to your head while upside down. This is exactly why I don't like these rides.

Anyway if you're reallyinto it check out ASTM F2291 - its actually complex - I'd have to qualify my statements about negative G-s - I'm talking sustained G-forces lasting more than a second or two....impulse forces lasting less than a few hundred milliseconds don't really count as G-forces you experience but could easily be measured by a sensitive accelerometer.....anyway enuff techno buzzo.

The simple matter is that Millenium Force may be high speed and high up in the air - but it doesnt dart about - so to me its a sluggish giant lacking zest. That's all I'm saying. I understand that's enough for some, and I'm certainly not saying "family" type rides have no place on the modern midway. But for those of us who like the extreme end it's nice to have some variety - snappy (yet smooth) rides seem to me the most neglected area of coaster design.

Happy coastering all.

Out of sheer curiosity, Mike, what does Maverick do for you?

Always glad to read a positive review of I305. Easily my top steel coaster. I can understand why some people don't care for it due to the intense transitions and forces, but I'd take an uber-intense ride like I305 over anything else out there.

I can't wait to ride it next spring break. What other rides are amazing at Kings Dominion? I also know they've got a good one in volcano blaster (I think that's a cooler name than the blast coaster), but what else?

Dominator is solid, and I was pleasantly surprised by Avalanche. I thought it was about as good as a bobsled coaster could get.

I would really like to give I305 another shot without the trim on the first drop. My wife and I rode it at the end of its debut season after they had installed the brakes, and I really thought it detracted quite a bit from the ride.

Grizzly is also a solid coaster; easily the top 2 or 3 coaster at the park.

I like forested woodies like Raven and The Beast, is Grizzly a good comparison?

Hi

Tyler, feel free to change the names of the coasters if you don't like them.
