Kingda Ka will be brought down by implosion in February, according to several theme-park news sources. Six Flags has confirmed the coaster’s removal, but the exact timeline for demolition has not been officially announced.

Mr. Stein is from Columbus and earned his degree at The Ohio State University. He was in New York for most of his writing career, so he was probably using his memory of his most local roller coaster as the muse. I don’t see his The Beast series as being near as popular as ermahgerd, Gersberms, mah favrit berks.

Gotta say, I enjoyed the several different angles of implosion.
Was hoping they would have put a GoPro at the top. Would have made for great viewing.

I never thought much about this, but someone who definitely was in the room where it happened told me that Dragster using a hydraulic launch mostly had to do with the space they had. There was no plot of land where they would have enough room for an LSM launch, which requires a longer run. That makes sense to me, but if that was the case, why wouldn't Six Flags have built an LSM variant instead? It looks like they could have just used more parking lot if they needed to. And we know it was possible, because of Red Force.
