KingDa Ka removal offical at Six Flags Great Adventure

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Kingda Ka will be brought down by implosion in February, according to several theme-park news sources. Six Flags has confirmed the coaster’s removal, but the exact timeline for demolition has not been officially announced.

I don’t think anyone will notice. The ride looked too intimidating for average folks and the one person I know who wasn’t intimidated said it didn’t deliver the thrills. (Plus it was stuck over there in the dead zone. Maybe the new coaster will liven up that part of the park.)

I think that area of the park will get a boost with the new ride. I really like the look of those rides but the experience itself was quite awkward. It didn't really move quick enough to provide any force, it was a little disorienting though.

I think that's one thing that we will see working different in the legacy Six Flags parks, they did take a chance on untested manufacturers in a way that Cedar Fair haven't done so much.

They have bought two of these, both now scrapped and also three coasters from Skyline, one is demolished, the other two haven't operated for more than five minutes.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

I also find it funny they whacked Cyborg to hoping no one would notice.

I never heard of Cyborg, don’t know what it was or that it was removed, so….success?

Watch to the end... yikes.

The girl crying at the end was a little much. But admittedly I have been sad at a few rides being tombstoned over the years.

This is exactly the kind of news coverage that makes you want to pay $1m+ a year to keep a problematic coaster.

They didn’t give any opportunity for last rides. I know I would have made a trip. Seems like a missed opportunity for extra revenue.

Yea I agree. Seems like it would have given them a short term revenue bump for sure. Did it have safety concerns that they had to demolish it quickly?

They didn’t give any opportunity for last waiting in line to see if it will reopen.

I'm sure the executive team is disappointed that they hadn't thought of a last ride event that twenty enthusiasts would have shown up for, arguing about who would be on the last train.

The executive team doesn’t give a ****, I know that, which is evident by the lack of announcements, removal of rides, scaling back on live E, overall en****tification. The executive team is more concerned with synergies and bonuses.

Yes, they could have done a last ride event with an auction and raised money for whatever cause. Made it an event, did shirts, whatever. It’s not like they closed a Dragon Wagon. It was only the tallest coaster built no biggie.

I happened to be watching an episode of “A Man on the Inside” last night that included the line “all any of us want is five minutes more.” It’s nice to know when is the last time you’ll get to do anything, I guess, but we don’t often get that. Roller coasters or anything else. All you can do is enjoy every ride like it’s going to be the last one.

(Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.)

I can't change that rollie coasters will close, or that parks often don't announce they will close beforehand so they make an extra 472 dollars from the enthusiasts who show up to get their last rides. It's happened throughout my lifetime, and if I bitched about it every time I'd be a miserable curmudgeon. Well, about that stuff at least. I'm currently a miserable curmudgeon from listening to all the enthusiasts bitching about parks not announcing ride closures so they can get their last rides.

I guess I could try to enact change so parks will let enthusiasts get their last rides, but I've tried the whole online petition thing and it shockingly didn't work out.

Maybe you can find the woman in the news piece and have a nice cry with her. Nice cry > RRR.

Gotta say, I enjoyed the several different angles of implosion. I rode it once, didn't care for it. Thought it was stupid to build it a few feet higher than TTD to get the record; they got stuck with a headache. CP still had the better ride.

Isn't that park built on some sacred ground of some sort? So many accidents and issues over the years...

My last front row ride was really smooth and intense. I think Top Thrill is better but I enjoyed Ka just as much.

I have worked with various parks on PM services on their compressed air systems on rides In our region. Including Hersheypark, Dorney Park, and Six Flags America. Guess who had the worst maintenance? Guess who had problems with payments? I feel like Ka is a result of inferior maintenance.
