Kingda Ka debuts to press as world's tallest and fastest

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Kingda Ka, and Intamin rocket coaster and the world's tallest and fastest roller coaster, has opened at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Read more and see video from CBS News.

They were saying keep your hands down and hold on to the black handles every single time they let a train out. They also said they will not launch trains that are not full. Meaning if only people were in the front row they would not launch and would send over to the other track. They were complete dicks about it also. They said they would only launch trains completely empty or completely full. I had my hands up on the launch in the front row and it was hard for me to hold them up. I grabbed the handled a second or to later but put my hands up once we started to go up. and had them up the whole way back. Nobody said anything to me.
Thanks Jer. You know I haven't gotten hit by the ugly tree, or even been around it for that matter lol
lol its better picture than "the" on ride photo on the way back in! LOL I can't look at it without laughing now!
"The slightly shorter Top Thrill Dragster"

hehe. Take that! Fanboys ;).

"The slightly smoother Top Thrill Dragster"

I'll take that any day, and my head will thank me in the morning.

Kind of interesting that I saw it on the news here in detroit. I also saw on the news about not letting certain people into the parks.

In all honesty, it looks just like ttd except it has a bunny hop after the decent. And the bunny hop has brakes, so whats the point of the bunny hop?

From what I understand it's main function is to help slow the train down. The braking is very gentle. The rough spot is right out of the spiral through the pullout.
What makes you think I was talking CP fanboys, geneticfreak?
Kingda Ka has made it into the news of both big public TV stations over here in Germany. (It seems to get more global attention than any coaster before - the Tagesschau report also mentions TTD, while the Heute report has footage of SFMMs Riddler's Revenge and DCAs California Screaming in the end, which is a little funny)

First off big thumbs up to it finally getting to have its day! You people in the area first should be very happy for this moment. The Coaster community has a new king and its called Kingda Ka. The only thing that gets me is that even when us Ohioians opened Top Thrill Dragster, we had even our shyest and probably the most scared reporters on it that Axelrod guy is a wimp. I wouldnt have missed that for the world!*** This post was edited by MagnunBarrel 5/22/2005 12:24:06 AM ***
With Cedar Point the WORLD'S best amuesment park in the world 7 years in a row....who has the original kingda ka that opened on time as a concept.....that has 3 top 10 steel coasters in the world ( 2 tied for first MF and Magnum ) along with Raptor o and lets not forget Mean Streak has been on the top 10 wood coasters.

Anyway enough boasting about my park lets get down to buisness

I have never been a fan of six flags or how they steal Cedar Point's concepts.....but kingda ka has brought dislike to an absolute hatred. Same exact ride but we threw in a what seems to be painful camel back at the end to keep us from getting our rich un deserving A$$Es from getting sued. Then let's make the same exact twists, the same exact pain scheme on the launch with the colors changing and let's not make it wayy taller or faster but a minor 36 feet and 8 mph. AWESOME. Then let's boast about how original it is and how massive and all that. Look at sfgadv's skyline kdk doesn't even fit in it towers over everything while Cedar Point has 4 coasters over 200 feet.

Cedar Point doesn't seem to care that Kingda Krap has the record if you look at their commercials this year doesn't it seem a little bit like they're rubbing it in six flag's face that they are the best? yeah which they should because the are. KDK didnt even open the day it was supposed to and no matter how wild this rumor is i believe it. I head Six flags called Cedar Point for help and Cedar Point responded with a simple " no if you want to be the best, beat the best, we figured TTD out on our own and still have problems.....good luck you'll need it"

So congratulations to Six Flags for achieving nothing, sure they have the height and speed record, but no pride......no pride

and somebody anybody who likes six flags, try to back them up with anything against my point ill eat you alive just like cp eats your records*** This post was edited by dollarshotsatmelrose 5/22/2005 1:08:47 AM ***

And no matter how much you hate, Great Adventure still has the tallest rollercoaster in the world. Get over it moron!

Cedar Point doesn't care because the average Clevelander and Detroiter (?) doesn't even know SFGAdv exists. And guess what... even those of that do know don't really care. Hopefully they're done chasing records and will concentrate on building good rides. maXair was a good start.
Antuan thank you! There was bound to be one of these people. I have a strong tie with Cedar Point being from northern Ohio, but people are irrate over this. Get over it Cedar Point has good rides, lets get that out of the way. Taller and faster make the race to be better all the more greater for us. I love Top Thrill Dragster too, but it was bound to be beat just as Magnum and Millenium Force were. He will complain about Wicked Twister too, when someone beats it out as the tallest shuttle launched, its a fact of life. We are living in the technology age and its good for competition so just think what we will see, but he obviously hasnt seen as much on the outside of Cedar Point. I am getting out and doing some other parks, and its great to see the variety. What constitutes better doesnt always mean faster or newer. I think the Beast is the best woodie out there right now, there is something out there i havent rode that will possibly be better, i like the magnum as you can tell i just messed up my name so dont take that the wrong way. Its my favorite steel, but the point is there is alway more out there, some people fail to realize that!

So Shut up and enjoy and big thumbs up to them once again!

Jeff also good to point out the same thing in his last post, people who appreciate the finer points of a park!

Bunch of useless crap...

How many times do I have to say it? Once more, with feeling:

And CP Fanboys wonder why they get a bad rap...

Way to go dollarshotsatmelrose

WOW... just wow... " how they steal Cedar Point's concepts"

Too bad that Intamin has the rights to the ride and not CP...seeing how Intamin sold it to Six Flags... there is no reason to be mad.

fanboy at its best..... so are you saying that when CP builds the next record... you wont say "take that Kingda ka"

Note: this is my first real expirence with a fanboy... and no wonder people hate them*** This post was edited by Earnhardt2 5/22/2005 5:25:33 AM ***

And we also see a great example of how some people lump all fanboys into one extreme category.
I'm staying out of the fanboy war here, but I just want to say that the jersey article is probably the best regular-press article i've read on coasters in quite awhile. He was completely unbiased, and for that, I am happy. There is hope in the journalism world.
