Kingda Ka: Could it work anywhere else in the SF chain

Actually it is 310ft height limit.
I agree with SFI's decision from a business point, because, on paper, it seems like a great business decision.

However, applying this to a real world situation, I see maintaenance issues and severe downtime. I have never been to this park, but I have been to Cedar Point, which had a good maintaenace rep (pre-TTD). Then TTD comes along, and they haven't been able to keep the coaster up continuously for a month.

I realize that CP is not SFGadv, and that no other park in the SFI chain could do much better then SFGadv, but it still pains me to see them do this without a proven working model of a 400 ft. Rocket Coaster.

Either way Kyle, I don't think CP might have invested in TTD had they known how much maitnence it was to run. If SF thinks they can handle it, well good luck to them. Each park tries to keep things running smoothly, but thats not always the case. Maye someone can learn something from someone about running an Intamin coaster. ;)
If you ask me, give Six Flags' next big coaster to Six Flags St. Louis, that place needs some help!

Then let us be thankful that it is not up to you.

Did I say St. Louis? I ment Elitch Gardens
Did I say you're not making intelligent sense? No, but I ment to...
OK, no matter what, Kingda Ka will draw huge crowds from the surrounding areas and beyond, because it is so tall, fast and some what unique. People in the NJ area will have seen advertising for KK all the time and near by cities will see commercials and advertisements and all the Enthusiast around the world know about the coaster already. If SFI were to add this coaster to any other SF park, the outcome and overall affect would be the same. At one time or another each and every SF park is run the same. We all have experienced bad trips to one or more of the SF parks, but we still insist on going to the next. IMHO I think that SFNE and SFOG are the best run and well kept SF parks in the chain. But I think that SFGAdv was the best place for KK. The park is huge, it always has high attendance, it is somewhat decent, staff is generally awesome, and now CP doesnt hold the title for tallest and fastest coaster.

This is just my opinion and if you don't like it, then deal!

What if I choose not to deal?

First, the ride will not draw the same amount of people if it was built in another SF park. As it has been mentioned several times before GAdv draws a huge number of people. No other SF park can do that. Not even with KK.

Second, how can each park be ran the same if they have different management running each park. SFI gives the capital(money not rides) to each park and the management there does what they will with it. Some parks use it on nothing (SFMM), and some parks use it on customer service, training, and upkeep of the park(SFGAM, SFOG). I dont think running one train operations at SFNE is get customer service. Some Six Flags parks will never be on the same level as the good ones.

Thought of the day:

Either way they are giving the Cedar Fair Parks (Cedar Point) a run for their money, only because they are known for breaking records.

I wish Cedar Fair would surprise me once, and not respond to this record breaker by building another one, but I don't think they will.

i agree with past posts, really Gadv is the place for it. and the word has gotten out too....ive heard it come up in converstation quite a bit with people about the "new, huge coaster at Six Flags in NJ"...

lets just hope that the maintainence nightmares of days gone by for Intamin rockets are retreating into the past....

still trying to think of a good signature...

Even with spotless maintanence, I don't think GAdv. is equipped to handle the kinds of crowds this ride is going to draw. Heck, even during fright fest a few weeks ago the park was so crowded that even Scream Machine had over an hr. wait. But what did the ops do? Same as always - slow apathetic operations.

well, thats how SF parks are, at least in my park experiences just here locally switching management, you can expect lines like those.

Visionland, which does keep a little bit of the Birmingham area crowd from going there. Virtually everyone in the Birmingham area has gone to or goes to SFoG so if several thousand stay closer to home, that is a loss for the park.

Visionland is pitiful, all it has is a good woodie, and OOOH, a Boomerang now. It doesn't draw from Metro Atlanta too much, except with the enthusiasts and some travelling families.

I strongly believe that SF needs to even out their rides and then attendance will rise.

I mean think about it, I'll go to Cedar Point no matter what because of their great collection of coasters, and the additions each year are more like 'presents' than to bring up attendance. They've established the park so well people will come back new ride or not.

However the smaller parks like Astroworld that are suffering, with the addition of a new ride, will have a huge jump in attendance.

I think that the ride should have gone to a different park. It would have been more successful and would have a greater impact.

Thats fair, but what about the other CF parks? They have nothing near the amount of TLC given CP. So your comparing a chain as a whole to SF? I am not a Dorney fan, but I do like Knotts a whole lot and think Knotts is about as good as it gets outside of CP. Then again, it is not CP either.

The additions that are made to CP is because that is the park that produces the largest Income. Maybe the attendance at SFGAdv was not as up to par as in the past, but it is the money maker of the chain. When TW had the SF brand, GADV was overlooked because they knew that the park would produce income no matter what.

SF is doing now what CF has done all along, put money into the biggest money maker and I don't think that will stop anytime soon either.
