Kingda Ka closed for rest of 2011 season....?

So umm... has anyone contacted the park to confirm what the title is asking? Not that I care about Kingda Ka being open or not since I don't plan on visiting the park anytime soon. It just seems like the logical thing to do rather than discuss something that could be a non-issue.

EDIT: A visit to the website shows that Kingda Ka is temporarily closed. Well there you go.

It's easier to ask random people on forums that may or may not know the answer and probably have no real way of proving it if they do.

If my car broke down and had this many problems, is it my fault for not keeping up with maintenance (even if it meant I would not be able to afford other things because of the strenuous maintenance) or the manufacturer for not designing a low maintenance car? Furthermore, is it my fault for purchasing from this manufacturer even though I knew what a nightmare it could be?

Just a thought that entered my head when people were blaming the park for this.

I had to DISQUALIFY one of Great Adventure's Coasters from one of my Top Ten Lists and place it in another.

EL TORO is NOT a bona-fide Wooden Coaster. I DOES have a wood structure, but the track, which is textured and colored to look like layered wood, is in fact steel. This makes it a STEEL COASTER (Sorry!) and I have ranked it behind SFNE's BIZARRO as my No. 2 Steel Non-Looper over 100' Tall. (It was previously ranked as my No. 10 wood out and back). Dorney's THUNDERHAWK replaces it in that position.

"I don't know what google is"-
The subtext of every question asked since 2004

That funny quote is not necessarily true. I have asked a lot of questions on the internet that could not be found using a search engine. A lot of information, especially theme park stuff, isn't in a nicely-worded press release. Sometimes an expert or an insider is needed.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion on whether El Toro should be classified as a 'true' wooden coaster, BUT you are incorrect about the track - the track is made of prefabricated track sections made of a high-strength wooden laminate, while not a traditional wooden track bed, it is wood - it has steel running rails like a standard wooden coaster. The biggest difference is that the train uses polyurethane wheels as opposed to steel wheels found on a traditional wooden coaster.

That is oddly specific.

It's times like this when I wonder if I secretly wish I had the time or that I'm thankful I don't have the interest.

There are also the metal block-like joints that hook the wooden track pieces together. (I am not arguing what kind of coaster it is, either way.)

I define the type of coaster by track not by structure. El Toro does indeed have track made of wood and is therefore a wooden coaster. I've said it, so it is official. :)

I can say STUFF with CAPITAL LETTERS to EMPHASIZE my point, TOO!!

DOH! I read somewhere where the Track Sections were Steel. My Bad! EL TORO is a bona-fide woodie. ;) Case Dismissed!

I would love to see Kingda Ka dismantled as Cedar Point is my home park. It would be awesome to see Dragster back to being the tallest in the world again.

CP would have the title again, but still lack a single 'great' coaster, arguably.

Oooooh burn!!

At first I was going to comment on Regulus' post, but I decided not to because I thought it might have been an attempt at satire. Guess not.

I don't think those are mutually exclusive. I wish I had the time and I'm thankful I don't have the interest. Then I'd have time for other, more important stuff...or even other, less important stuff in which I actually have interest. :)

Awesome. Thanks for that.

Well, here's the thing. Since the suggestion has been planted, I'm going to wonder forever what my #2 steel non-looper over 100 feet tall is.

Then I'd be led to find out things like which is my favorite red sit-down coaster without OTSRs that is south of the 42nd parallel and in a park that offers season passes for less than $150.

And that's a slippery slope.

That's fairly easy. Where it gets time consuming is finding the top 10 red sit-down coasters without OTSRs south of the 42nd parallel in a park that offers season passes for under $150.

That's nothin'. Try making a top 10 list of coasters south of the *southern* 42nd parallel.
