Kingda Ka closed for rest of 2011 season....?

Yesterday I visited SFGA. My friend and I bumped into a fellow enthusiast whom she knew through facebook. We started chatting and apprently he stated that Ka had a rollback that tore up the break system as he put it. He also mentioned the hydraulic system (or parts of it) needed to be replaced. I know Ka was down this summer for routine check up's but I am just trying to picture how a rollback can tear up the brakes.

His friend is a ride op for Ka and that is where he got his info. Said the price tag to fix Ka would be up to ten million?! . Aside from that conversation, trip was awesome!

*It was also mentioned that Talon valleyed on the dive loop element* Never thought Talon would be capable of that but I guess anything is possible.

Sky's the limit.

The probably closed it down so it could get the New Texas Giant Treatment ;)

Last week the flash pass admitter for El Toro said some cables got cut in the hurricane and that's what was taking it down for rest of the season.

And earlier in the season a ride op said it was going to be dismantled.

Choose your rumor...

The story I heard was that there was a roll back during morning tests, and the pin that engages with the sled fell back down during the roll back. Normally the pin stays up and out of the way of the sled after a launch (it doesn't drop down again until right before the next launch), but for whatever reason this time the pin catches the sled and forces it back down the launch track in a manner it wasn't designed to.

Talon was open today, but was only running 1 train (along with Hydra) which is strange since it is very rare to see Talon or Hydra run 1 train even on days when the park is dead except for weather problems like high winds. So maybe it did valley Saturday?

I was told that Talon did valley this past Friday. It must have been a very rare sight to see that happen.

It terms of the dismantled rumor, I can see both sides. One it is very expensive to maintain and it is not very reliable (it breaks down so much) and on the other hand, it is the world's tallest coaster right now and one of the fastest (#2) and that is a huge draw to the park; but again when it is up and running =)

Magnum will be closed for the rest of 2011 because it's sinking. ;)

The hydraulic launch system has really had a patchy history hasn't it.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

I would love to see Kingda Ka dismantled as Cedar Point is my home park. It would be awesome to see Dragster back to being the tallest in the world again.

Yeah, it would be just totally amazing to have a record-breaking coaster at one park dismantled and removed so that the park that I like better can take the record for tallest coaster in the U.S. back.

Heck, I'd love to see every amusement park in the world close down except for the one that I like. That way my favorite park will be the only park in the U.S. That would be great. :p

But seriously... KK has been one of the most unreliably coasters in the country ever since it opened. That is part of what made me dislike SFGAdv so much. I've asked this before, why should I spend time, money, and effort to visit this park? I'm still pretty upset about the last time I went, when they posted on their website that KK was finally open to the public after being closed almost all season, only to find it to be closed again, indefinitely, when I got there.

CP would have the title again, but still lack a single 'great' coaster, arguably.

GA does have El Toro and Nitro going for them. Its practically a B&M coaster showcase (minus a dive machine and wing rider)! Houdini is finally open full time now and seems like they are trying to add in flat rides with the bumper cars coming next year and the tower. I like many parks throughout the US but I cannot ever say I would want to see all of them close except for the one I like lol. I like toooo many of them thanks to my friend taking me to all of them. She is the one that got me really hooked on them =)

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Let's not forget the Scrambler and Flying Elephants!!!

Let me just go on the record as saying that the first two paragraphs in m y previous post was total sarcasm...

How in the world can a coaster enthusiast say that they would want a coaster to be removed just so a park that they like better can take a record. It's a selfish, and immature opinion.

---

Let me also add that the new bumper cars and whatever that SFGAdv is getting next year has already been there for a long time, and the new tower attraction is replacing one of the last parachute drops in existence.

It is noble that they decided not to close Houdini sporadically throughout the season like they used to though.

Now if they could only figure out how to keep enough employees to run all of the rides, shows, shops, and stands to accommodate all of the people who visit the park each year, I might try to be a fan again. I imagine that is a very hard endeavor, seeing that no one lives near the area.

The parachutes aren't being replaced. The Sky Screamer is going into the Fantasy Forest. The bumper cars are going to be new ones, the scrambler is either going to be the old scrambler the park that went to SFOG or a new one I guess. Royal Elephants are from the Golden Kingdom though.

I don't believe you, but I also don't know what I am talking about, so... :p

I heard they're going to put in a hotel.
