Kewl New S & S Rides

Over at Screamscape, Lance has posted a trip report of a trip he just took to S & S in Utah, the new rides are making me drool.

Kevin

Those rides are awesome--i just looked over there this morning, the squirel ride is amazing!
Yes..I saw them too. WOW, was the first word that came out of my mouth. Those flat-rides look amazing!!

Kevin,

Why did you re-create this topic after it was deleted this morning?

Thanks Great America!

Well, since I don't spend 24/7 on the site, I didn't know that it was posted and deleted earlier in the day.

Kevin

Isn't it great to see a company innovate? Now this is thinking. Especially that squirrel thing. A full sized layout of that would be awesome, although I am a bit concerned about forces on it, but you can bet I'd be in line for it!

I think this ups the ante for more innovations like X. Although S&S had some probs with the ThrillShot, some parks may be apprehensive about installing one of these untested babies.

Kevin,

Sorry, for some reason, I thought it was you that had posted it this morning. The post was virtually identical to yours...

Stan Checketts is obviously demented and should be locked up. That is right after he finishes installing one of those squirrels at SFA. (or in my back yard)

My question is looking at the pic of the squirrel, how do you load the cars? It looks like the last stretch is upside down and then it curves around back to the lift. I think both the squirrel and the sky swatter both look totally insane. I hope they both see general production soon.

EDIT: I just thought about this but think about the amount of negative G's you would hit on that squirrel coaster every time you went over that edge and then upside down. That is like going through a high-G loop except on the outside of it. Then coming back to the upright position you should get some killer positive G's.

Yeah, that squirrel coaster looks insane! I thought coasters couldn't get anymore innovative after the 4-D but it looks like S&S has come through with yet another new coaster type.

I can only imagine what it'd be like to go towards that drop only to be hanging upsidedown going back in the other direction (it's basically like the vertical tower on HS:XLC tilted foward by 90 degrees) that's gotta be completely insane.

HOLY CRAP THESE RIDES ARE AWESOME! I KNEW THAT THEY WOULD DO THIS WITH S&S TOWERS!

ARACHNID CONSTRUCTION UPDATES AT brakerun.com

It looks like you load on that second tier before it flips upside down and flips again to climb the lift. See how they have a train sitting in that area in the rendering?

EDIT: From talking to Lance, he has comfirmed this.

I hear a train a comin'

I had always wondered if that screaming squirrel concept was possible..ie-holding the rider upside down for an extended period of time on a coaster...As has been mentioned above, I thought it would be impossible due to the g forces created, but.......

maybe I was wrong :-)

And the Sky Swatter looks sweeeeeet!

I swear as soon as I think of a new idea, someone updates their webpage and I see that it has already been made. This is the case for the squirrel and part of the idea of X. No one is stealing them from me, but I did come up with the ideas before I had ever heard of them being made. Too bad I don't work for a company... their loss though... anyways, it just totally bums me out that I think of something cool and it gets made the next day.

There is one that is missing... I thought of it last night. I will probably see it on B & M's website tomorrow afternoon so I might as well tell... spinning inverter seats but they are not in rows... only the layout would be different and the ride would concentrate more on the experience you have... I can't really explain it, I have to draw it for you. You would also need some advanced software for determining g-forces on something that crazy.

I dunno, just ideas. It would still need to be thought out a lot more before any type of plans were made for it. Sometimes I even find that older rollercoasters have utilized some of my ideas too. Like I saw a picture of a car on a track and they called it a rollercoaster. I have always wondered if they could make a "car" rollercoaster. I am sure that other people have thought a lot of the same ideas so I guess it's not that big of a deal, but it is just fustrating, and kinda fun in ways, to actually be able to ride my own ideas that someone else has perfected.

I know what you mean. Even though I couldn't possibly work for any of these compoanies, I've always thought about new coaster concepts. The squirrel type thing, with what I like to think of as a 180 degree drop, hasd been something that's been bouncing around my head for years. Of course, I imagined it on a much grander scale, which probably wouldn't work. I'm just glad that there's something out there like it, that I will hopefully be able to actually ride sometime!

Does anyone know if S & S is working on making a retrofit for their existing towers to the tilt seats?

-----------------
Waiting for the CP announcement to be made so that about 1000+ posts will be made complaining about it.

Wow man those are so kewl! Or cool, or neat, or awesome, I've never heard of "kewl." Anyone else? ;-)

87 different coasters for this year and counting... 149 total!

The people who did the work on H:XLC earlier this year, Interactive Rides, had all kinds of retro fits for S&S products, mainly the tilt seats for the drop towers & the Intamin Parachute ride drop tower conversions.......

they say they can retro just about anything to Interactive Seating.

What's with all the green and yellow seats? Some one must be a packers fan. ;) Those are amazing I cannot wait to ride anyone of those.
I always thought since I heard of it that they could do the squirell thing with a vekoma tilt coaster.
