Richmmo, did your wife work for "Saccy" or was it after he retired?
Yes, she certainly did work for "The Old Man". Tony Sacramento was such a character! My wife worked there from 1984 - 1986. I was there from 1983 - 1988.
Man, how ironic that I find this post today, the day I found out about the storm that came through. I was away doing drum corps in some place in NY. My husband woke me up and told me when he read the newspaper.
I remember making my Mom "talk Kennywood" when I was a little kid. We'd talk about the things we liked there, and what it was like when she was young, in the 40's and 50's. In fact, she was there in 1967 or 68, when a ride called the Pop Over's cars broke loose. There was loss of life there. We confirmed the ride with Carl Hughes in 1983.
I too love the smell of the old wood, and the grease on the coasters and the Whip.
I love the employees. Didja ever see some of those surly, carny looking types that work in some parks. Bleechhh..Just like on the Simpsons.
Boy, we sure are spoiled here in Pittsburgh. I hear that KW doesnt want any volunteers. They want you to volunteer to help the community. I still want to help KW.
