Kennywood needs a big boost in the future??

Why not bring it up? Just because there are employees means that no one else can have an opinion on the park and park operations? I will agree that at first reading, Shaggy came off wrong in his post. I would do the same kpjb did (esp. seeing as he has more knowledge about KW than probably anybody on this site), but we've already gotten past that.

So Shaggs can say what he wants, and no one cares who works at the park because we can still discuss in an adult fashion here :). I doubt anybody will get 'bashed to death'.

No one was personally attacking you Shaggy, I only see people disagreeing with you. As others have said, attendance "stuck" at 1.3 million for over ten years is hardly a bad situation to be in for a regional park.

I also think its hysterical Cedar Point's decision making is in question here. The park has been open and succesfull longer than Kennywood has.

PGH Steeler, Get yourself to places like IB and others. Space isn't a problem in adding rides, However it might be a concern at maintaining atmosphere.

How isn't space a problem? To put a ride in a park you need space. With out space you can't put any new rides in. Why do you think they replaced a ride and moved another ride to another area of the park? Because they needed the SPACE!!!!!!!!! What don't you understand about that. Kennywood isn't that big of a park to have 14 roller coasters.

Kennywood could add a new wood coaster..put it UNDER the parking lot(HADES)

Wouldnt need much lumber for the lift either, just run it along the hill to the upper lot :)

Just have Fred Weber consult on how to build it!! *** Edited 6/7/2005 11:35:51 PM UTC by Kwood and WestView worker*** *** Edited 6/7/2005 11:40:50 PM UTC by Kwood and WestView worker***

Kennywood doesn't own LC, they manage it.

Incorrect. For all intensive purposes, Kennywood owns the park--they put millions of dollars out of their own pocket to rejuvenate LC when they first became involved with it.

I think if they wanted to build another thrill ride & coaster then they could think about buying the land next to the exterminator.

Kennywood already owns most of the land behind Exterminator. My understanding is that they are having problems buying up the rest of the homes; even when they completely own the space, it'll be at least until the end of the decade before they'll need it.

I was also told that the "Kennywood Shoppe" plaza above the parking lot is also owned by the company.

Kennywood does not own the shopping plaza--in fact, they were booted out of the old Ames store, which they used to store PFN and other props in.

Moving on...

If you want to post such a harsh (and mostly incorrect) criticism about the operations of a park next time, you shouldn't be so surprised when people try to correct you. Instead of fighting, back up what you said in the first place with proven facts.

How isn't space a problem? To put a ride in a park you need space.

PGH_Steeler, do some research on Indiana Beach and Moreys Piers... what Charles is trying to get at is that Kennywood has more than enough space to add a ton of new rides if they were willing to sacrifice the atmosphere of the park; however, Kennywood chooses to remove attractions in order to keep things spaced out.

If you work at the park, as you claim to do, you should realize by now that Kennywood would never build a parking lot coaster. Plus, running it under or over the highway would require the blessings of Penn Dot, which can take years.

I hope we see at least 2 more new attractions come to the park as soon as possible in the future. Not 2007 maybe 2008,I don't know..just in the future.

Screamin' Swing is coming in 2006, so you're halfway there. :)

Cornball is a case study in putting a ride (and a *fantastic* one at that) where there is, essentially, NO space.

I sure hope the full-size Screamin' Swings offer a little more *ride time* during the cycle. The ones I've seen and ridden all have ridiculously short cycles...2 more pumps in either direction would make the *ride* last all of 25-30 seconds, and wouldn't hamper capacity in any serious way, especially for the full-sized models...

I am *pretty sure* Stan C. would approve, LOL...;)

Exactly PhantomTails.

KP could ad probably 20 more rides including a couple coasters without removing anything. What you will have is a park with rides over the top of rides ect. IB and Moreys are prime examples.

I don't see this happening at KP though, The atmosphere is perfect.

Chuck

What is it with you and the "future", Jaychillericeicebacydude3332?

I wonder what x park will get in the..."future"?

The best advice I can give you is to wait and find out. Don't forget to enjoy what the "present" has to offer though.

PhantomTails....

I USE to work there(Kennywood),many years ago..

Andy Vettel was still living in his house next to the logjammer and in charge of maintenance.

I can see how a out of towner would get excited over KP,it is a great park, but for someone who goes every year(I would never miss a opening day, have missed the last 3 years)it has become a little boring, nothing to get real excited over, same old stuff..(JMO)

Dont get me wrong,I enjoy the classic "flats",but a new unique flat would be nice(Zamperla claw or even a Chance Zipper would be great)

The guys in maintenance would love to see a Zipper would'nt they? :O *** Edited 6/8/2005 5:45:40 AM UTC by Kwood and WestView worker***

When you look at parks like Indiana Beach and Morey's Piers, you realize that very few parks really have a "space problem". In fact, building within such challenging parameters usually means that something more unique and exciting will be the result.

But there is the flip side of the coin, where building up does create a problem with atmosphere. Kennywood has a great look and feel and I would worry if the park decided to build rides on top of rides (like a wood coaster above Lost Kennywood). The reason Kennywood removes rides on a regular basis when adding new ones is probably because they want to maintain the look and feel of the park.

Of course, there is that bluff behind the park that would make a perfect location for Boulder Dash II!

That's not to say that IB and Morey's (and Blackpool Pleasure Beach for that matter) don't have great atmospheres in their own right, but they're DIFFERENT than Kennywood.

I don't think it was wise to bring up a topic such as this seeing that PGH_Steeler, beeman, kpjb, myself, and i'm sure many others are employees at the company and would bash you to death.

Count me out, dude.

I don't care if someone disagrees with me, and I'm not gonna bash someone to death just to defend the place I work... I don't bash people when they offer what I consider valid opinions, I just think that much of what was said in that post was distorted facts and misused statistics.

I corrected what I thought needed corrected, and ended my post by being an wiseass because I like to amuse myself, and don't really care if anyone else gets the joke.

I have nothing against Shaggy, in fact the only reason I like Daphne more is the red hair and boobs.

You'll never see me be someone who merely tows the company line. The place makes mistakes, and trust me, I see way more of them than you. I just don't like it when half-truths are passed off as fact.

Hi

Mistakes like buying a ride that has the same motion as two other in-park rides from a company notorious for rides that don't work and are ugly as sin, not to mention not the home-run thrills for all they're advertised to be? ;)

Shoulda said that. Different atmospheres but each are exceptional in their own right.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Rush at Thorpe Park had the exact same program as the one at Knott's. Still a very short ride (and every bit as unreliable!). :(

I think they should at least add one more coaster if they're going to do anything in the future.
