Kennywood closing time?

I'll be driving right past Kennywood tomorrow night on my way to a family reunion, and noticed from their web site that they don't have a set closing time. What time do they normally close on Friday nights during the summer? I wasn't planning on stopping this trip, but I'm wondering if I should try busting out earlier to get to Pittsburgh by the start of the 6:00 PM night time ride session, and if I'd be able to get all the important stuff done in one evening.

thank'ee

Touchè, teacher, touchè.

1. Usually ten or eleven, depending on weather and crowd sizes.

2. It depends on what you consider the 'important stuff.' If you just want to knock out the coasters once each, then you should have no problem in four or five hours. If you really want to get in all the unique, one-of-a-kind flats + the coasters, with multiple spins on your favorites, then you need a full day.

I'd say yes. I was there yesterday (Wednesday) and there was A LOT of people there. Mainly different schools and groups coming in on buses.

I'm almost positive they didn't close until 11 last night.

If I were to guess, I'd say they'll be up until at least 11. But it depends on wheather/how many people are there. The usual stuff.

Kennywood's closing time is the second best-kept secret in the amusement industry..... :)

Man, if your even thinking about it, you know you have to! Get to Thunderbolt early if your by yourself, as you must have 2 riders per car, and stand at the queue entrance and look for groups with odd numbers, etc, etc. Don't be shy.....My experience was it was harder to find someone to ride with the later it got, as the park started emptying.

Oddly enough, Jack Rabbit was more popular the closer it got to closing when I was there, and since you'll be right there first, you might hit it quick, and then over to TB. Exterminator was the opposite; thinned out later towards closing, so plan on it last or almost:)! Fill in the blanks with Phantom and Racer. And don't stand anywhere that is underneath a coster or ride; spitting is a sport there.

It was cool to have met you on my trip recently; have fun!

Covering two topics here:

Closing time, and this is what I've heard from some inside the park, usually follows the last Skycoaster booking of the day.

If you can not find a rider to go with you on Thunderbolt, just ask one of the attendants on the platform. We had an odd number in our group recently and the park was lacking in single riders, so we just asked the attendant to ride with one of us. After glancing over to the ride-op, who gave the go ahead, problem was solved.

Kennywood closes when I give the go ahead. ;) Anyway, I've had a TB ride attendant ride with me before, but I'd try finding a partner first because I doubt they're allowed to do that very often.

kpjb: You should try talking to some of the higher ups about using the "ARROWED!" guy in a few commercials featuring the KW arrow. And perhaps you could also build a statue of the Cheat somewhere in the park.

I never thought about the SkyCoaster situation. What happens if the park has to close early due to bad weather, but there are skycoaster reservations taken for later in the evening?

Well, the truth is that we're going to retheme Lost Kennywood as StrongBadia. The Wipeout will become Tire, and the Pitt Fall will be painted like Marzipan's head.

Woohoo! That'll bring in the crowds...

Perhaps Exterminator could instead be called Trogdor the Burninator.

hahaha That would be awsome. I's deffinatly go there if they did that
Kennywood needs to offer Homestar Runner and Teen Girl Squad prizes !!

And instead of Garfield, Odie, & King Kahuna costume characters walking around they need all the Homestar Runner characters walking around. Well I guess you could keep Garfrield, but it must be The Cheat, dressed up as Garfield.

So wait, I'm going in late July with my Dad. My dad has back problems, so I'll be riding all the rides by myself. Does that mean that they'll make me find some one to ride with?!

Darth Saambe - Yes. The 'no single riders' policy on Thunderbolt is very strict.
I'd bet with how popular its getting, there really will be Strongbad and Homestar prizes around the parks within the next year! Rock on!

You have to have someone walking around in a cape with a sign on their chest that says "Stiny" and make sure he's carrying a danish ...

I'm pretty sure they give refunds out.

Chris, do they only do it on Thunderbolt?

Yes, Thunderbolt is the only 'no single riders' coaster.
