Ka Major Breakdown....again!

it may have been the catch car not stopping after the train disengages from it. I read somewhere they earlier in the season there was/(is?) trouble with the catch car stopping after the launch. If the catch car doesn't stop, it would surly cause some problems. That thing weighs a ton, literally, so the ammount of momentum it has i massive.
To bad there was not anyone on the ride to give use a eye-witness report of what happened... well maybe not.

I do not think that a cell phone could cuase that many sparks and a giant BOOM!

I wonder what Shapiro is thinking about this latest incident with as he put it the "Infamous Kingda Ka" Im sure he's probably really pissed off about this, I mean after all the man didnt really like the ride to begin with.

"The man" doesn't really like roller coasters, if you ask me.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
Definately didnt like Goliath when he visited Over Georgia.
People are reporting that TTD ran decent on opening day. Most of the downtime was due to rollbacks and a few minutes of reseting. CP had a lot of issue with ride operation though.
So what, this isn't about TTD.

And For all those who believe that the train does not touch the brake fins, take a look....

What scares me is people who actually TALK on their cells during a coaster/flat ride. I have seen it many times. I have seen several a**holes chat/TM on their cells going up a lift hill. WTF?

At least I'm not the only one that this kind of thing pisses off. What? You can't put it down for three minutes... *** Edited 5/7/2006 3:30:41 PM UTC by Willh51***

^ LOL, that's the ONLY three minutes Tina puts down the cell phone... ;)
i listen to my ipod on coasters. i dont think thats a big deal. its fun to add music to the ride. I know i know...what a rebel, your thinking! i keep the ipod zipped up in a pocket though. some people just dont think. it might have been someone who had a cell phone attached via a clip on the waist and it fell off. They arent very strict on ka about placing posessions off to the side. they dont make people take earings off or anything. the general public just doesnt realize the strength and power of a 128 mph ride. i made the mistake of keeping my collar on my adidas jacket up for a ride on ka and let me tell you, the wind at 400 ft up and a 128 mph ride made those collars flap against my face like blades. quite painful. i never made that mistake again
I listen to my iPod on rides too, I keep it secured and it's not an issue.
The iPod-on-coasters thing bothers me for a few reasons:

1) While I know YOU'RE securing your player, I don't trust everyone else to. On Georgia Cyclone a few weeks ago I saw a kid in the row in front of me listening to his CD player. His HAND-HELD CD player. He was even doing a rap to it while riding. If I weren't pissed off at the hand held thing I'd have been laughing my ass off at how stupid he looked.

2) It's no direct concern of mine, but taking a powered-on iPod on a ride isn't the best thing for the hard drive inside. Drives are pretty rugged these days (especially the laptop drives used in MP3 players), but why chance the drive powering up to read data at just the wrong moment, resulting in a head crash? I don't want to risk MY toys that way... (Now, if you have a solid-state MP3 player, that's different, but the larger-capacity players have drives in them still)

As for the comment that "they don't really make you secure items on Ka", if that's true, kiss that policy goodbye when the ride reopens...

This isn't going to be a ''quick fix'' folks, trust me.

I believe the "catch car failed to stop" theory. I sure hope I get to ride for the first time this year :-/
is there any way that it could still be a cable snap?

Nitro is the greatest.

Intamin made it sick but six flags killed it.

ANYTHING being "lodged in the launch area" should cause an immediate system shutdown from the control system. Something still ain't right with the design if you can launch a train with something (or, theoretically, someONE) in the launch area...

How many sensors do you think this ride has? Seriosuly, they is a difference between preventing a *person* from entering an area and preventing a *cell phone* from entering the area. With as small as Razrs and Rokers are these days, you'd have to essentially have to have a light curtain along the whole length of the launch area. What do you want, the ride to shut down everytime a leaf blows by?

*IF* this was caused by a cell phone (and I think this explanation is a good rumor at best) than I'd imagine that this is one of those freak of freak accidents. Not only did the phone have to fly out, but it had to become logded in the ride. Lodged in such a way that it actually came into contact with a moving part. I wonder what are the odds of that happening. I'd certainly doubt that one would be able to repeat it at will.

BTW: I've had items "secured" that have flown off of rides: B:TR @ GAm and S:ROS @ SFA to be exact. I wasn't intentionally being careless, sometimes ish just happens!

"Can you clarify for us?"

I think it is funny sometimes the things kids come up with.

I was just being a smart azz. :-)

But you knew that.

^It works that way in RCT3 :)

A day at the park is what you make it!
