"Board at your own risk?" When I board I willingly accept the normal risks known to be inherent in riding an amusement ride. This wasn't a case of normal inherent risks, if a wheel assembly fell off the train. It is the park's responsibility to ensure that their customers are exposed to only these normal inherent risks. When someone else's negligence results in damage to me (and I would say hospitalization and fear of death would qualify as damage), I expect to be compensated for the damage I've suffered. Everyone should be delighted that SF is being required to compensate the victims of this incident, because perhaps it will urge them to be more diligent in their maintenance in the future - resulting in a safer park for everyone. Anyone opposed to safer operations? I'm actually a bit sorry that no punitive damages were assessed; that might have really gotten SF's attention.
