Jazzland rebranded as Six Flags New Orleans

Six Flags announced yesterday that Jazzland, a recent acquisition, would be rebranded as Six Flags New Orleans. Initial improvements include a new Batman: The Ride (B&M inverter purchased from a Japanese park), a smaller coaster and other improvements and themes throughout the park.

Any ride you have to adapt a "special riding technique" to avoid pain is an absolute piece of junk, in my opinion. I can't enjoy a ride when I'm fighting to not get knocked out by the OTSRs.

Yea..Should have made it..Six Flags Jazzland..

Backseat Lee, this is a bunch of baloney. The only problem Six Flags has had with Houston is the parking situation because the city owns the lot. If Six Flags had their way they'd have their own parking lot and be charging $10 to park, it's all in their grand scheme to fleece their guests. Don't be too surprised if Jazzland's parking costs a dollar or two more than it did last year.

Uhm.. someone please tell me what backseat lee is smoking... i didnt understand his post at all.

How could Houston alienate the park? I mean, come on, we're the 7th highest grossing themepark in the chain. We generate a huge amount of per-cap money. It went up 11% .. ELEVEN PERCENT .. this year over last year. We also generate MILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year for the city in TAXES ALONE. Don't believe me, look at the records at www.hcad.org... and plop in 9001 Kirby Drive. You'll also notice our land value alone is appraised at 14 million dollars. For 85 acres. 14 MILLION DOLLARS. You will notice from 2001 to 2002 we did over 2 MILLION in improvements.

And I don't understand why you think the fact that I run a tribute website means the city of houston is against astroworld? Where the hell is your logic here? I don't understand what you're talking about dude?

And the first year New Orleans gets it's six flags name, and it gets a standard issue Batman The Ride clone (USED) and JOKERS REVENGE? Oh man, bad sign. Trust me, I know whats going on for 2003, and even 2004 for AstroWorld. We're doing just fine, thank you. It's time we attract a family element back to our theme park. We are making steps back in the correct direction.

Is a Super Saturator on the horizon?
Backseat Lee, it sounds like Drachen Fire was badly designed. Well designed rides don't need any kind of bracing to enjoy them. They also don't need one of their inversions removed. The average park patron might make BGW their only themepark stop (meaning one) during a summer. Do you think they're going to ride DF over and over again to find out where the trouble spots are? Of course not. They'll move onto other attractions and call it a day as far as DF goes. Calling patrons you were supposed to be securing "wusses" shows a real lack of maturity on your part.

Shy One

Why should it be named Six Flags Louisiana when the whole state never pitched in a dime to help fund this park?

And also keeping the Jazzland label doesn't make sense because most of the locals hate the name anyway.

WHAT?!?! Are You talking to me!

Well Panther Modern, Fierce Pancake and anyone else this pertains to. If everything is what you say it is, then stop complaining all the time and you have nothing to worry about now that SGNO is a reality. I've surfed and registered at your site and got nothing but complaints and un-easiness about Six Falgs aquiring Jazzland.
Well, crazydude, that's not really a valid argue.

Six Flags Louisiana would be much more appealing to state residents. While New Orleans is a large tourist spot, focusing on the whole state, I feel, would help more in the end. SFL would be more likely to draw residents from other parts of LA. Personally, I would feel more compelled to go to a Six Flags Louisiana rather than a Six Flags New Orleans (yes, I live in the northern part of the state).

Shy One is correct. People from the northern part of Louisiana, or even Baton Rouge, are more likely to react favorably to Six Flags Louisiana than Six Flags New Orleans. This was probably a factor in selecting the name.

I also note that no enthusiast has posted here saying that they rode Drachen Fire and enjoyed it.

I also can't believe that none of the buildings at the old Jazzland had A/C.

Uhm? They are air conditioned! Maybe they meant the queues... rides... pointless statements by Six Flags? Many of the queues have fans, misters, and blowers. I think many other Six Flags parks do not even have that...some ride queues aren't even covered at all at other parks.

Why should it be named Six Flags Louisiana when the whole state never pitched in a dime to help fund this park?

Even though I don't like the name, I'm pretty sure the state granted quite a bit of money for the project.

The city of New Orleans had a 25 million dollar HUD loan that they would be responsible for if the park closed. The city and state have made numerous tax breakes to get the park built.
