Japanese parks, please describe them!

Everywhere, dude. Everywhere.. You must have just gotten lucky. :) It is the standard in Japan. It prevents trash, litter, etc... Most people carry tissue... I still have tons of it saved for keepsakes (unused, of course;)). Some restaurants (the nicer ones) have tissue, but go into a McDonalds, and you are Mcscrewed....

Hey guys

As u probably know i love jap coasters and stuff despite never actually being there. I have a few questions i hope you don't mind answering.

How did you guys find Double Loop at Fuji-Q? Rough im assuming but is it as bad as the famous aussie thunderbolt? and do you have any idea how the lift works? i hear its a sled lift... Also the Mine train at Nagahsima looks quite cool any thoughts? I hear the Wild mice there are particularly lethal (Sansei ones of course lol)

Nasai what did you think of the coasters at portopia land? im especially intrested in Double Loop as it looks short but quite cool. One of those random coasters sansei and Schwartzkopf worked on. And the Bobsleds? (munich something or other?) i hear the park shut this year actually like its ill fated sister park Kure Portopialand also how did you find the Cyclone at Nara Dreamland? its an Intamin woodie and a clone of Wild Wild West in Germany if i remember correctly. And that really wierd looking bobsled coaster at that park built by sansei.

http://www.digital-coaster.com/~ft/sansei/bob.htm this one lol it does look mighty odd. Are there any other coasters at nara at all (Im sure there are but without browsing the RCDB or my site i cant remember off hand) if so were they any good?

How do Their collection of flat rides compare too? I always see lots of spinning things on pics lol.

Did any of you get to any other coasters? something like Festival gate which isent exactly a theme park lol. Delphis has me permentently intrested, Especially with the S-Bend lift hill...

Anyway thats enough although im bursting lol. Sorry to be so uhhhh...... inquisitive but im intrested..... Cheers

Dave

Double loop was not too rough, but not my cup of tea. Interestingly it had an elevator lift. Guess MF wasn't the first!

Yes, the Mine Train by Togo was fun! That and Fujiyama are the best Togo's I've ridden. Oh and the wild mouse...it doesn't get any more intense than this! [url="http://www.coastergallery.com/japan/FH15.html" target="_blank">Pic by your's truely

Nasai: I guess I didn't use any of those public toilets when I was in need of some paper. (I spent all but 2 nights in people's house, and my hotel had paper in the rooms! Beautiful hotel on the sea.....served me the most amazing meal I've ever had in my life included in the cost of the room!)

Hmm, I never ran into the no toilet paper problem either. I get a kick out of how the Japanese have these super-advanced electronic toilet/bidets yet their 'standard' toilet is a hole in the ground. It's such a country of contrasts.
One thing I'll add to the park descriptions is that going to Tokyo Disneyland is like going to the Walt Disney World of my childhood dreams (early eighties). Tomorrowland is still a gleaming white vision of 50's optimism, Mickey Mouse Revue still plays in Fantasyland, even the costumes of the cast members have remained unchanged in 20 years (Actually, I noticed this other places in Japan too. Flight Attendants walking around Narita looked like caricatures of 1970's stewardesses complete with Polyester Dresses and hats.) Plus, the cleanliness and maintenance at Tokyo Disneyland hearkens back to that time, long gone in the US, when hand rails were painted every night and light bulbs were replaced religiously. It's refreshing to see those once core Disney values being upheld, even if it's across the ocean.
As for Nagashima Spaland, comparisons with Cedar Point couldn't be more accurate... except Nagashima has a MUCH better wooden coaster (though I prefer Millenium Force to Steel Dragon 2K)
It has that same late 70's amusement park feel that Cedar Point has retained.
The games at Nagashima had some great prizes. The friend I was with won us 3 Steel Dragon Hats with the Bowling Ball Rolling game, on about $4 worth of trying, which were much nicer than than the 1700 yen version of SD2K hats they were selling in the Gift Shops.
I found the food at Nagashima pretty lacking, though. And as with all Japanese places, the very American idea of 'the customer is always right' is non-existant. I had just bought a soda (Melon Flavored! My favorite!) from a vending machine when I tried to buy a burger from a stand at Nagashima, and they made me buy a 'set-o' which included Fries and a Drink. Never ask them to make a substition in a 'set-o'. It'll never happen.

-edit- I tend to love Mine Trains, but the one at Nagashima didn't thrill me. I adored the Schwarzkopf Looping Star, though. I'd never ridden one, so it was a big surprise. So smooth.

ROFL chris...the best part was "Stand over the bowel". Now, I may not be the contortionist that SOME here are, but I'm not even sure HOW I would go about doing THAT....maybe something got lost in translation....(or gained....like maybe another 'E')....haven't been that entertained in awhile....thanks!

edit: just ANOTHER thread goes down the toilet....:)

I still don't see how you're supposed to use the toilet without either taking your pants off or falling in. The one time I tried it I had to prop myself up on the wall behind me because I was afriad 'it' was going to fall in my trousers.

roomraider, if you go to www.rcdb.com you will see my pics of Delphis. Yes, I have ridden it, and yes, it was very cool... albeit, very very short (or so it seemed). A drop, turnaround, fly through the mall (to the tune of strange lights, ala Space Mountain), another turn, and the station. Short, but really smooth, and a lot of fun. It is the original mall-top coaster. A great little mouse there, as well.

The double loop at Fuji-Q isn't that bad. Just a boring ride, IMHO. Now, the double loop at Portopialand is great, with the typical long straight Schwartzkopf shot to the loops. Not much after that, but the loops are surprisingly intense. I loved the bobsled there. I don't recall the name, but I have a great pic in the sled with my wife.:) I didn't hear that the park shut down...:( That is really sad... What a great place!

I only rode Aska at Nara. That's it... didn't have time for anything else.... too many deer;)

More later, but I have to eat! Robbie is hungry.... stay away Moosh!!!!:):):)

Seems Japan got the good one, while Dreamworld was left with the bad one.

Looking at Jeff's photo of the ride: http://www.coastergallery.com/japan/FH06.html, you (well I), can see that somewhere between 1981 when Thunderbolt was built, and 1988 when Double Loop was, Meisho improved their engineering skills. Whereas that one has nice curvy hills and stuff, ours has transitions taking up a few metres, followed by lengths of straight track. Not to mention ours is 225m longer - and you said Double Loop got boring!

And to bring it back on topic -- toilets rock!

-----------------
So what if the best coaster in Australia is a second hand Arrow?

You don't have those killer toilets in Aus. do you? :)

Chris, I will tell you what. You need a pole to hang onto when you use the "toilet." Japanese people are trained, I swear, to NOT fall backwards. I have to take my pants off ahead of time. The nice part is (most) toilets have doors that go all the way to the ground. The airports have the greatest, cleanest toilets around. I did have to use a public toilet in downtown Kyoto in 98. The reason I remember it was 98 is because it was the last time I will ever do that. My wife had to guard the door, and hide me from the prying eyes, that can quite clearly see you "do your business." It was dirty, and disgusting, and (although somewhat thrilling) embarrassing...:(

I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK!
