It's Official, I am tired of Paul Reuben on the travel channel

I almost wish SFOG had less attentive ride ops because during Superman's media day Mr Reuben walked right in front of a train as it dispatched and the only reason he wasn't hit was that a ride op hit e-stop. I have to say that the image of Paul Reuben being knocked to the ground would have been a nice one especially since I did have my camera ready. Those images would have been priceless.

That was my first time seeing him in person and he disgusted me. We watched him go uo to the gates over by Superman's drop and go walk backstage under the coaster alone like he owned the place. Then he had to be let into the park for free and escorted by PR onto all of the rides that Saturday because it was beneath him to wait through the 10 minute lines like the rest of us.

Also when does his supposed magazine ever come out? I've never seen a copy of it anywhere.

You're not the first to pass along stories like that of the guy.

If even half of them are true, he sounds like a total tool.

Also, it really annoys me how the travel channel states so many wrong facts and uses the same video clip to illustrate more than one inversion. Maybe it's just me.
I stopped watching all the coaster shows altogether.

I don't care about rider POV, I prefer to see the coaster track POV. Plus, if anyone who understands even a little bit about how TV works, those interview quotes and rider reactions are probably well rehearsed with reshoot after reshoot after reshoot just to get a particular scene done right.

Same goes for those travel channel haunt shows too--show the maze POV, not the view of the participants acting scared.

Anyway, the behavior seen on TV by Paul Reuben, or any other participant of those shows, is probably well agreed upon before they even start acting in the show. I would highly doubt that any of that stuff is done spontaneously, without prior rehearsal.

Actually most of the rider reactions aren't really rehearsed. The production crews let them know they are going to talk to them but that is about it.

Now the POV footage and the "play by play" in the front seat generally is shot numerous times.

I would have to say that he is about exciting as a tax audit.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

holy crap you realyl pay alot of attention to this stuff. Me i turn on the tv and if there is a shot of the coaster I watch it. i've never payed anywhere near that much attention to the people on the rides.

Well, I am one of the ones that like the POV shots. Personally, I don't pay too much attention to who is on the coaster shows. I just want to see the POV footage and other shots of the coasters from a distance. All of the other stuff really makes no difference to me one way or the other. Sounds like some are jealous because they assume they would do so much better.
That David Escalente guy seems more credible, but gives you the false sense that perhaps acers are normal.

Years ago there was some coaster show on Nickelodeon with Bob Dillan riding the coasters and providing commentary. Anybody remember anything like that?

POV is only interesting when they show the track from beginning to end and don't "cut it up" with quick 2 second shots of the riders, other scenes or any other kind of "strobe light" effect TV people seem so fond of making. General purpose cable TV coaster shows nearly always leave me disappointed.

What I'd really like to see is a camera mounted on the last car instead of the front. I think it would be interesting to see the whole train snaking through the ride.

For those of you that missed Mr. Reuben riding Superman Ride of Steel:

I just think it's a bit ridiculous how loose his lapbar is.

Truly, that would've been the best PWNED clip ever made.

Don't you mean Matt Dillon? The "movie" was called Wild Rides. I never saw it on Nickelodeon, rather I watched the VHS tape of it.

I don't know. I remember Bob Dylon (excuse the earlier spelling mistake). But I was really really young at the time and didn't even know who Bob Dylon was so who knows if I have my facts straight. :)
Met him once at SFWoA while working the rehabbed Wolf Bobs in 2003, he's almost as annoying in person as on TV! ;)

brutal, man, brutal.....
Wow, after re-watching that S:RoS clip with Paul Ruben, I paused the video and he is *almost* standing up on the ride on a bunny hill. *wow*.

It's a perfect example of why the lapbar should sit on your lap and not your gut.

Compare the shots of Ruben with the straight on shots showing the guy & girl riding in the front. Big difference in lapbar placement.

The 'bucking' the ride gives Ruben just seems so much less safe than the shot of the other two.

(not making implications, just observations)

Just to make sure:
Paul Reuben and Paul Reubens are two different people, right?
Please stop me from trying to figure out how PW Herman could possibly have changed into what I see in that video.

I don't know Paul Reuben, just the stories. The only time I saw him in person was at Xcelerator's opening day back in 2002. He was rambling on about how awesome the coaster was (yet he hadn't been on it yet).

I am surprised we didn't see him here but now I suspect why Insanity went down Thursday night and Friday morning. :-D And we were SO close to riding it!

Oh well. ;-)
