Acer, welcome to the forum. Well thought out first post. Looks like you put a lot of time and energy into it.
Just a few thoughts, if you don't mind...
Just because people post in here how do you determine that they have no outside life beyond amusement parks?
You say people take this stuff way too seriously. Compared to what? I heard a story about a Jets fan who went to Washington to watch a football game. He wore his Jets jersey with pride, only to be beat to near death. Now that is taking an interest too seriously! I have not heard any stories of Six Flags fans beating up Cedar Fair fans.
I don't call people grade school names, I call them adult names. And, if you met me, you'd be scared. Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I get angry.
Welcome to the Buzz, Acer. I'm sure Playa will provide you with a link to his Theory of Nobody shortly. There's no need for you to act like an ITG (Internet Tough Guy), okay? Personally, I don't ever recall seeing any "regulars" jumping down anyone else's throat for misquoting statistics, etc. If you could provide specific, relevant examples, perhaps we might be more likely to see your point.
Oh, and BTW, it is beyond lame to try to get the "last word" in on a post. No need to fire any warning shots before anyone fires one at you, hombre.

CBuzz is actually a rather healthy way to let off some steam.
If you've "lurked" with any consistency, you can tell right off what will start flame wars and who will provide the most entertainment (Moosh, Playa, etc.). Generally, here I go again making a generalization, the folks who truly go overboard are those with limited life experience (how’s that for PC).
It escalates when a contradiction or criticism is taken to heart, or taken too far.
Most of the people here have real lives. Some have families and careers. Other are in school and have dreams. While a few more just like to instigate trouble. Personal reality is relative.

I guess the only one I *consistently* provide entertainment to is myself, but that's OK too.....per Stuart Smalley....
Did someone summon Captain Obvious? Where's the fire?
Oh, I see...right here. Let me take a looky with the Bass-Acward-vision goggles:

Hmmm...I see. We've all learned a lot today. The best way to 'back off', 'grasp the outside world' and 'let go' of issues is to spend enough time in this virtual world to open a whole new thread in a coaster forum without any nice people to tell them to get a life. I mean, that's what I seem to be reading here, no?
Looks like my work is done here. I gotta get back to the real world where this awesome three-potato salad and chicken-with-carmelized onion focaccia pizza keeps calling my name. Real life can be tasty.

I'm just saying--hey, if you wanna sit in a thick puddle of mud next to me and splash around, go right ahead. Just don't bother calling me Stinky.

Kudos to your culinary tastes! I'm working on a nice piece of chicken fajita pizza as I type this!

That reminds me SO strongly of the Superfans...."you need to increase the ratio of pork fat to beef fat"....

I don't post here too often,
Apparently, you've never posted here before. Look at your profile. Anyway. Let's engage in a discussion. Show me just how "open minded" you are by listening to my position. Who cares what you think? I'm not saying that to start a fight, or insult you or anything like that. The fact is, you've got no credibility, no name, no history, nothing to say we should 1) listen to you or 2) trust what you say is reliable. The reason people like Moosh, 'Gator, 2Hostyl, and Jeff are respected around here are because they know what they are talking about. And, they don't rub it into people's faces. They also engage in friendly discussions, and make us laugh. Some here are intellectuals. They like to think. Some like to discuss complex physics problems and figure out WHY a coaster goes around a track the way it does. Some here like to learn new stuff. Engaging in discussions helps us to learn.
Yes, you do get the occasional jerk. There are people you don't agree with. They are just as entitled to their opinion as you are. That doesn't mean they are free from criticism or critique of that opinion. Freedom of speech does not necessarily mean freedom of stupidity.
Answer this question: Why is "backing off" and "letting something be" a justifiable response to adversity? Had the Wright Brothers backed off of their dream and discovery, you wouldn't be able to fly. Had the US backed off after the Challenger explosion, we wouldn't have a space station. Had the minute men backed of from England over 200 years ago, you wouldn't have had the freedom to post comments like you did on this board. If you are not challenged, you do not learn. If there are no external stressors of any kind, you do not grow. Why is asking questions, and asking people to back up thier facts so wrong? What's wrong with a little thought? What's wrong with debate? What's wrong with the way this board is run? Don't like it? There's a little button on your computer that is labeled "Power". Push it and walk away.
This board is a great resource for us enthusiasts, and those of us who are budding enthusiasts. We want to know how. We want to know why. We just want to laugh. If "backing off" is the appropriate response... Show us. Prove it to us. If you're right... I'll follow.
I don't expect you'll be right.

How do you get the dough for the crust then? Grain grows in the ground. :)
Sorry, just had to post a smart-a-sed remark.

Ooo! Ooo! Can we be Captain Obvious and Sour Boy? I like that
Look what I've done to myself. The ObviousMobile will now have to be a minivan so there's room for Oat Boy, Sour Boy, Gator Boy and whatever other sidekick comes along. I'll be the freakin' soccer mom of justice!
Moosh will have to hang on to the bumper in a cart because we'll be so tired of hearing him ask people to ride him instead.
