Is the Son of Beast at PKI underrated?

I have riden Son of Beast more than thirty times in the past two years. While not as awesome as its father, Son of Beast is still awesome in my book. The Beast doesn`t have airtime so why should Sonny? The only thing that I don`t like about its layout is that it doesn`t exactly follow the natural contours of the land like the Beast and isn`t hiden in the woods as well as the Beast. If I had a choice between Son of Beast and the Vortex (PKI) I`d probably pick Son of Beast. Please don`t put Son of Beast or any coaster down, because if it was the only coaster on the planet, everyone would ride it and probably like it.

I don't think it's underrated. It's good, but with all the awesome CCI creations out there, it just can't compete with them. Sometimes more height and speed aren't better. I loved it, but with the Legend, Ghostrider, Boulder Dash.....etc. out there it just can't stand up to them.

Of course you knew I'd have to jump in and say that was my opinion. :) Of course, that was only one ride. We'll see later in the season how I feel about it.

There's four words that put Millennium Force's layout to shame. Can anyone guess what they are?

And height and speed don't make a good coaster layout Callahan. Look at HXLC. Look at STE. Hmmm. We all know the definition of layout correct?

And SOB will hurt if you sit on your hands the whole ride. Put 'em up!

Danny, who is still looking for where this site banned opinions
Son of Beast: I have never professed to loving all coasters and never will. There are some that if they disappeared I would not care in the least. There are things I like and things I dont. I dont feel that I need to love them all.

Callahan (brakes?): in regards to layouts - SD2K

ChrisPep: The Legend, Raging Bull, S:ROS@SFA, Sonny, Viper (SFGAm), Raven, Phantom's Revenge... but it is clear that we have polar opposite tastes (I LOVE B:TR and you *gasp* actually like Raptor :))

Jeff: I thought you rode it more than once! Oh well, it only took one ride for me. I doubt that your opinion will change because I dont think the coaster has changed besides the stupid #$%^!&* plywood boards on the floor of the trains (What moron came up with *that* idea?)

Koaster king - you think i was sittin on my hands ? that ride hurts like hell. My leg got busted on the lapbar sides from banin on it repeadidly and i had the worst headache after the ride. ( no joke )

2hostyl- what do you mean by ( brakes? ): in regard to layouts- steel dragon 2000 !?

Callahan brakes: Wasnt that from Tommy Boy (movie with Chris Farley). Thiking of Sandusky and Cedar Point make me think of it. Sorry.
And SD2K had the most awesome looking layout I could imagine. 3 great frist drops, a twister section and loads of bunny hops as opposed to four hills and five turns. I understand *why* Millie was the way it was, but if you ask WHAT ELSE could be done, well that pertty much sums it up :)

2Hostyl, I love to read your posts because you always give a nice, clear response that usually I agree with and you know what you're talking about.

Danny, who thinks Jeremy stole his opinions ;)

I agree SOB is very underrated IMHO. It is very powerfull and very fun and re-rideable coaster IMHO, it was rough I didn't find it to be extremely rough but hey it's a woody and a monster woody at that.
SOB is underrated by a long shot. I think that the roughness is good b/c it adds another dimension to the ride. Plus, where would we be without pain? The drop is one of the best anywhere, and the loop is great (especially if you have some girls sitting behind ya on their first time and going into the loop you yell "were all going to die!" Me and my friend got them scared to death! Told us they loved it!)

all about PKI
the Beasts` Den
My track record is not huge, but SOB is one of my higher rated coasters. I prefer the ride of a wood coaster, so that is part of it.

If you like airtime, you won't like SOB. If you like the feeling of power, racing through high banked curves, and the feeling of freedom while turning over in what is without a doubt one of the best veritical loops in existance, then SOB is for you.

This coaster has 4 rough spots in it. The intial drop, the bottoms of the 2 curves in the first helix, and the bottom of the curve in the second helix. If they could get those kinks ironed out, it would be one great riding coaster.

For tall people though, the positions of the handles really are bad. With the raised floors, they are exactly at knee level, and i find (being 6'3") that i have to hold on through most of the ride to keep my knees from banging the handles.

This coaster shouldn't follow the terrain as closely as the Beast, or you would have had another version of the Beast. The 2 provide very different rides. Although a couple good tunnels into darkness wouldn't hurt. :)

I have ridden MF and it really didn't do a lot special for me except looking down while going through the overbanked turns is great. I found Magnum to be a more exciting ride. SOB does something for me everytime i ride it, but i prefer wood.

If I'm correct the "moron" who came up with that idea also probably came up with the ingenious idea for Flight of Fear!!!
It might be a rough ride but it is great. look at the records it has broken.

1.Fastest wooden coaster.
2.Tallest wooden coaster.
3.First wooden coaster with a loop.
4.Tallest coaster with a inversion.
5 First wooden coaster to reach 200 feet.
Actually, it wasn't the first woodie with a loop. Just the only one. The first was made LONG ago, but SOB is the first modern woodie with a loop.
