Is Mean Streak As Bad As Talked About?

Hmmm.........funny how different people have different views of the same coaster, isn't it? Here's what a person on a different message board I visit had to say about MS:

"Any who has ridden Mean Streak this year knows that only an old 90 year man would consider Mean Streak an "Ouch" coaster."

I didn't think it was rough at all, but it sure is too slow ! They brake (break!?) the ride to the point of making it boring.

It sure is impressive to look at though. I'd rather look at it than ride it, but that's not to say that you shouldn't give it a try.

First off... I have never ridden Mean Streak (nor have I been to Cedar Point).

Keeping that in mind, I will say this...

I have found that some coasters that people rave about, I totally disliked (i.e. Kennywood's now gone Steel Phantom), and others that people always complain about, I have found not to be that bad (Dorney Park's Hercules).

Bottom line... Its a coaster... ride it yourself and make up your own mind.

Yep, SLFAKE is right. I think one of the major downfalls of online discussion and 'being an enthusiast' is when someone doesn't ride a certain attraction because they have heard bad things about it. Ride it and then form your opinion.

I agree MS isn't as great as it once was. I'm not happy with the trimming on the first drop either. But it is smoother than it used to be, it IS a nice long ride that twists in and out of itself, and my opinion is it runs better in the morning than it does later in the day.

I wouldn't wait more than 30 minutes for it, but frankly, it's gotten such a bad rep that it's been quite a while since I've seen a line that long.

It really is worth one ride. Just remember to NOT sit back in the seat. Sit forward and "ragdoll" yourself and it will not bang you up.

Maybe I'm just not used to good wood...but I sure had more fun on Mean Streak than the Beast.

What's love...it should be about us, it should be about trust!

Mean Streak is awesome! But every ride and day can give different rides.

I found MS to be very dull. It ran so slow that I thought we'd have to get out and push.

I wish it ran as good as it looks.

I find it fine to ride but its a little rough. The only problem with it is the trims. They bite really hard and kill most of the speed but I would imagine it would tear itself, not to mention you, apart if they were removed.

I was just at Cedar Point on Tuesday and Mean Streak was running great. It was running so good that I rode it four times - more than any other coaster that day, the first time that's ever happened for me. The trims on the first hill were barely catching and the train was flying around the track. I even got some good air time on a few of the hills. Even the second half of the ride was great. I rode near the back every time, usually the second to last car, and I got the four best Mean Streak rides I've ever had. The ride was pretty smooth for Mean Streak. Mean Streak has been running pretty well all year, I've even gotten a few rides in without the trims on the first drop. I definitely recommend that you ride Mean Streak when you come to the Point, it's definitely surprised me this year.
No, Mean Streak is not as bad as talked about.
Well, I have not been on Mean Streak, but many people say Demon and American Eagle are bad rides. But, I rode them, and found that they are great rides. Don't beleve what everyone says, just ride for yourself and see what it is like.
Yes it is. It's slow, rough, has no memorable spots or enjoyable runs. It's a big pile of rotting failure. I was optimistic, however when I rode it and I formulated my opinions on my own, I suggest you do the same. Some people like getting hemmorages.

It's not very rough, but it is very boring. Every time you think you are coming up to some little hill that looks to deliver negative g's, it fails horribly. Wonderful structure, absolutely beautiful. But a very boring ride.

Yes im afraid it is....... rough, if you feel like getting hurt, this is the ride for you. Unless its for a track record. For some reason Magum also seems unpleasently rough, and dissaster transport. All of the other rides are not that rough.

Going up 170ft. on a wooden coaster is intense to me...the slower you go up a hill, listening to the chain, the more anxiety builds up. One other thing to note is you have a great view of Lake Erie climbing the lift hill. Honestly, give it a shot. If the coaster were new this year, it would be a top five woodie. I don't think it's any more rough than The Beast.

Make that 161 feet. ;) And if you're going to be trimmed down a 150' drop, you might as well go for a 80' drop with no trim...

I don't know what wooden coaster you've been on but Mean Streak is very rough during most parts.

Ride this ride. I rode it yesterday at coastermania and it wasn't rough at all. The first drop was trimmed a little too much and the ride was kind of forceless, but overall, it's still pretty fun. I have yet to find it rough and I'm not sure what every one else is talking about. Just give the ride a shot. You might like it, you might not, but at least try it.

Oooh! Now you did it! Talking bad about the "World's #1 Woodie"....

Back to reality, I'd personally put Mean Streak and Beast even keel. They were both pretty boring (well boring for a rollercoaster anyway). But I never found Mean Streak rough. With as tame as it is, I'd say that MS would be a good coaster to sleep on.

But dont listen to me. I dont think Son of Beast is rough either!

Loved it through 1998. Disliked it in 1999. Adored it in 2000. Despised it in 2001. If this is a pattern, it could very well be a halfway decent ride this year. Overall, I have found it to be quite boring and rough at times especially during the latter parts of the ride. I really wish they would wait and brake you going up the second hill turnaround, because I loved the first drop when it wasn't braked so much and that alone would make the ride much better. It's definitely not as bad as Hercules which I doubt I will ever ride again, but I still have some hope left for MS. Try it. Ride it. We all like rides in different ways for different reasons. So, take a shot at it anyway.

Jeremy, if you don't find Hercules rough, send me some of whatever you're taking! But, if its side effects are not finding green B&Ms(Raptor, The Hulk, Riddler(?)) and rides that give you that upside down hold as enjoyable(ie: Volcano, Top Spins, Vortex, etc.), I'll pass. ;)

Of course, I don't find Son of Beast(my #2 wood) rough either. Just intense which is where I think some people get confused at. The Beast still scares me with the helix and the long straight ride I find unique especially with the tunnels and airtime off the second drop, but its nowhere near a favorite unless I'm on a night ride.
