intamin woodies

Threadjacking anyone?

Your Park only has 1 good coaster! That's too bad!

I thought this topic was supposed to be about the new INTAMIN woodies, not SoB...

I have not ridden either one, SoB or a new Intamin, but since a "large woodie" thread has come around, may I be the first to say "Mean Streak sucks!" ;)

I think that might be my fault, I was the first to mention SOB, but it was not my intention to threadjack.

I will repeat what I said earlier: that reports coming from those who went on the ACE trip to Europe said Colossus was fun but way too smooth for a wooden coaster...that it was missing that characteristic wood "feel."

Also, it's way too early to tell if Intamin's new track style requires less maintenance.

You can't expect Intamin to build one in the US until a park wants one! So far that has not happened.

Looking at rcdb.com, it shows that there is a third post-2000 Intamin woodie, Elf in Osaka, Japan. Anyone know if this is a "plug-and-play" type or an older type?

well yeah. i realize that. im wondering why no one wants an intamin woody, there are a ton of intamin steel coasters.

wouldnt sob have been a perfect candidate to be an intamin, smooth, heavily banked turns. he he.

EV....I don't KNOW for sure, but because of the building codes there, I'd take a guess at it being a P-n-P...

I'm only guessing but if I'm not misstaken there's only one company who are able to make the kind of track that Intamin uses for their prefabricated track woodies and that's Ing. Holzbau Cordes in Germany. So untill one of the american lumbermills can cut the tracks I think it'll be awhile untill the states has their own Colossos/Balder version (Elf is an old fashioned woodie).

About Balder, due to a pretty twisted layout and intense airtime hills, I'm very happy that it's smooth as a steelie. And since it has been built I've been thinking. Should we really compare these new types of wooden coasters with the other "normal" woodies? I mean, they have never felt like a "real" woodie and they'll probably never do. So I see them as their own type of coasters but for now, there's only two of them :)

thanks for the good post olov.

thats kind of what i am wondering about, if it feels like a steel coaster and has similar elements, why make it out of wood?

are they really THAT smooth? as in, no shakes at all?

It's the older type. Not a bad thing....one of my favorite coasters is a 1994 Intamin woodie :)

for the last time, Peabody, MTR is *not* a 1994 Intamin woodie!

This does make one wonder what M:TR truly IS. From all the rumors, it sounds like an Impulse to me. Back and forth, back and forth, and with a twist.....I wonder if extra supports are needed on this one, too...

Obviously, I've lost my mind. :) I promise never to jump on the hijacking bandwagon again, and for penance, I'll say 3 Hail Marys and 2 Hello Dollys, as recommended by Eddie Izzard....

It's a woodie, but it's SBNO at the moment.

mOOSH [why did I have to bring that up again? Will I ever learn?]

Ask Moosh to send you some photos.
