Intamin Wood Track?

...Case in point: Indiana Beach. As their wood coasters get SMALLER, their wood coasters get WILDER.

The difficulty with the laminated beam track is that the only way to maintain a track section is to replace it. Kings Island considered using that kind of construction for the loop support on Son of Beast but decided against it because the steel support system can be maintained more easily than the laminated beam construction could. If the park has competent carpenters on staff, they would be better off using traditional wood coaster track, and using an improved train design...

Who wants to see a LoCoSuMo train adapted for Mean Streak...

Wood coasters do not need to be bone-jarring rough. Smoother is better. Most people do not want to come of a coaster beat up, bruised or injured. Son of Beast is not good because it is too freaking rough. There are way too many wood coasters out there that are not popular because of their roughness.

Has anyone in this thread actually ridden SOB in 2002. It's not bad at all alls it does is bash the legs a little bit, that's due to bad train design. Also, with laminated track it costs more as said before. I also think that having a smooth woodie is stupid anyways, I ride them for the out of control feeling. I believe that with an improved train design it could be the best ever. Also, if you think SFMM is going to build a coaster taller than SOB and longer than Beast, you think that. I would hope they wouldn't build anymore till they have the rides from 2001 running reliably.

Woodies shouldn't be 200+ feet tall, or as smooth as silk. Save that for the steel coasters. Woodies need to be out-of-control and a little rough. Thats just what they are!!!

Where is it written that woodies shouldn't be over 200+ ft. tall and not be smooth? Yes I've ridden SOB and did not like it because I came off of the ride with banged up knees and elbows. I had bruises for almost two weeks. Premiere's trains on that coaster sucks. SOB is too rough and I'd like to see Intamin retrack the whole coaster using their new track design and their new trains. Maybe Intamin could do that with all of the mega woodies in the U.S. Coasters like Rattler, Hercules, Mean Streak, and Son of Beast would be really good if the parks did that.

The only problem I could see with the "I" track replacement would be down time. With the normal wood coaster track a good track crew could replace a small section of track in maybe a day or so.

With the ''I" track they would need to replace an entire 40 ft section or whatever length they come. But then again they don't need to "build" the layers of wood or place the track. I guess most of the down time would be in ordering the new piece. I'm sure a good park would plan ahead when they are gonna replace a section. " The bottom of the first drop is starting to get potholes I better order a new section of track"

I wonder if the track only works with Intamin woodies or could it be added to any wood coaster easily.

Im guessing it only works with Intamin wood because you would need to have the connections in the original track in order to attach the new piece. Who knows. Maybe down the road this will be the way to keep the woodies maintained. Anything is possible.

What would really be cool is a woodie with the cable lift like on Millennium Force. I just love that thing.
Personally I have no problem with a wooden coaster being smooth as steel, as long as it's an out and back. I don't want to be subjected to roughness when the trach is straight because that means there isn't something exactly right with the track or with the train. Now with twisters, I do like to be roughed up a little bit. If that were as smooth as steel I would somehow feel dissapointed. Now I'm not saying I want an unmaintened thrashing, but the traditional rattling that comes with a wooden coaster.

I wonder how much additional cost it would be for PKI to retrack SOB over say a winter season using Intamin's new method... Hmm... However, I stand firm that if SOB just had better trains that it would provide a much more enjoyable experience for everyone (I love it regardless).

Rideman: I went to Indiana Beach for the first time and LoCoSuMo was totally awesome, it'd be awesome to have those trains on some of the wilder woodies out there...
