Intamin accelerator for Tusenfryd, Norway

well isn't a cobra roll more like a halfloop-halfcorkscrew-halfcorkscrew-halfloop? (At least it is in RCT... ;) )

What a great layout!

Is this a Badnitrus production? Check out the people in the station! They look like like they are on a boring vernisage, hillarious.

That looks great! 2 corkscrew hills followed by an actual corkscrew? Was I seeing that correctly? I actually prefer the rockets with inversions as oppossed to the ones without. I know that sounds like blasphemy to airtime junkies, but most of these have otsr anyway, might as well use them. That looks wild.

Any opening date yet for this one? *** Edited 2/21/2006 7:51:08 PM UTC by DWeaver*** *** Edited 2/21/2006 7:51:38 PM UTC by DWeaver***

Well the non-inverting ones are:

Superman, Xcel, TTD, KK, Rita, and Stealth, correct? None of those look that inspired.

Superman down under is the only one with an even remotely interesting layout as far as I'm concerned. I mean, there's only so many different variations of L-TH-B you can ride...Rita would be a lot more interesting if it had a tophat (I know, height restriction) or something other than figure 8's over and over.

Whereas SR, Canon, and Speed Monster all look like at least 2 or 3 trick ponies. ;) *** Edited 2/21/2006 9:31:47 PM UTC by ApolloAndy***

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Doesn't Xcelerator overbank, and thus technically invert?

Also, I've only been on XCelerator, TTD, and Stormrunner (KK was down every visit last year, but it's similarity to TTD makes me think it won't be much different). Of those 3 that I've ridden, I actually enjoy XCelerator the most. it whips you over the tophat for some wicked ejector air, and the overbanks are pretty intense making it a great ride the whole way into the break run.

That's just IMO, and as always YMMV.

I'll get a few laps on Xcel and be happy about it....but overall I think I agree with Andy re: layout making for a *more complete ride*. Not necessarily inversions (for me at least), but something a little more...inspired. Storm Runner, I don't even KNOW you....yet! ;)

Oh, and is it too much to ask for Intamin to borrow from Premier and build on the CORRECT side of a top hat? Now THAT is an inversion I can live with...:)

Gator, I was wondering how long a discussion on Intamin tophats would go until you brought up the "proper" way to navigate a tophat. :)

Well they KEEP building 'em and putting the trackage on the wrong side! ;)

You mean they are putting them on the wrong side of the pond. ;-)

Awesome pics! Yum.

Or they could split the difference:

Go vertical and spend the first half of the top section on the outside ala Xcel, then do a half twist at the top and come down the other vertical section on the inside ala Freeze. Everyone would be happy.

In all seriousness, I way prefer the outside tophats (well, at SR's and XCels and even H:XLC if it counts - TTD and KK did nothing for me) to the inside ones (both freezes and chiller).

I'm going to have to talk to the wife about a European vacation down the road...but you know, strictly for cultural reasons. Educating the kids on other countries...yeah, yeah!

Coasters? Why of course not honey. Well, it won't be the "focus" of the trip. Trust me!

ApolloAndy, the problem with that idea is that it would probably be considered a new element. Then someone would complain about the name of the element. Then someone would complain how the element isn't at their park. Then someone would complain about the paint scheme of the element. Then someone would say that the element breaks a record, and that's just disrespectful. Then someone would correct the element's grammar and spelling. Then someone else would ask which element is better and start a vs. thread. Then someone else would start going off topic. Then someone else would complain that it's off topic. Then the element would come back with a WAY late reply that their grammar shouldn't be corrected on a message board, and that's why you don't see more of that element.

Umm... ok, maybe I had a bit too much sugar tonight! :) But my original point before I digressed.. wouldn't that be a new element entirely?

Those short trains look great!

Interesting that they went with 3 car trains and with TTD-like theming. I wonder how much acceleration they could put into a 3 car train on TTD.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Top Thrill Dragster gave more kick when it had 4 car trains.

It was on par with Xcelerator with acceleration. Of course the intensity lasted longer too.

Why is it that TTD had to run on the 4 car trains to "condition the motor" but KK or any of these newer rides don't have to?

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

That is because it wasn't conditioning the motor. Did you notice how the gold train was on the tracks during late March yet it disappeard untill June?

The problem was caused after the new catch car and train were involved in an incident. Intamin skrewed something up during initial testing. The following is the best account that I have come up with. They were running a test program that allowed the catch car brakes to be down while the train launched. This was the point where the train was being launched at lower speeds. They probably had a reason to do it. Something happened during a launch. The result was the catch car and train were damaged. The ride would not have opened on time since the time it takes to ship from the fabrication plant to the park. After this what they probably did was fix the catch car so they could do testing and run during opening day. As a result, they took one car off each of the remaining trains to reduce the weight so there was less stress on the catch car. When they got the new catch car, they put in on and added the 5th car for each train.

And here is a pov and por:

I must say that the speed is not exactly as monstrous as i was hoping for. It looks a bit slowish, but the layout is still great!
