Insanity Mishap

Nobody was hurt and the safety system kicked in when it was supposed to. But man, hanging out there like that for over an hour in windy conditions... yikes. I have to admit, if that was me, there might have been a light rain during that event... if you know what I mean ;)

coasterqueenTRN's avatar Wow!

And just to think that almost happened to me and my friends on opening day.

I would not mind being "out there" but certainly not an hour. Yikes!

My questionable non-fear of heights is not THAT insane. Well, maybe it is. LMAO!

That's why you won't find me on that ride. Crazy!

If you jump off a cliff, you might as well learn to fly since you've got nothing to lose

rollergator's avatar LOL Tina, remember the discussion with Kristin and Jeff about EXACTLY that malfunction occurring...happier to not get to ride than to have THAT happen to me....

bill, DOES have a pretty healthy fear/respect of heights...;)

I'll add that to my reasons why I won't ride that thing. I also cannot stand heights. Ironically, heights don't bother me on coasters. I am more scared of Drop Zone than TTD.

Oh my merciful Jesus. That's the scariest image my poor little brain has ever had inside of it. :o

I wonder why the thing is programmed to stop in that position, dangling over the ground instead of having it automatically stop and bring the arm back in?

Maybe just in case the wind blows the arms they wont hit anything on the way in?

...and such

Insanity is a pretty interesting looking "roller coaster" lol, I couldnt imagine what it would be like to be stuck up there like that especially with wind.

crazy horse's avatar Its not a rollercoaster.

You think that with the ride being on top of a tower, they would be aware of the effects of the wind on the rides. Should this ride have been closed before the wind was that high?

I have to get out there to ride this looks awsome.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

rollergator's avatar There IS a rollercoaster (High Roller) up there as well as Insanity (Satan's Swing), X-Scream (Satan's Teeter-totter), and Big Shot (Satan's Space Shot)...

I think the reporter might have added to some of the confusion regarding the *nature* of these rides...

Also, being in the desert the winds do pick up quickly and are hard to predict...when WE were there we were told it would operate until the winds hit 25 mph though.....hmmmm. Operate properly? ;)

Yeah, it's probably pretty nervewracking--

but imagine the view! ;)

I think that would be amazingly fun and an awesome experience. But then again, I'm a littlun. I like that type of stuff.

Adrenaline Whore.

I know, I was poking fun at the confusion the reported had mentioned by rollergator;)

You said it, Jeff! :-P

Bill, when I saw the news article I thought the same exact thing. I knew that *malfunctioning* arm would get SOMEBODY. I just wish it was us. ;-)

After all that waiting another hour or so hanging off the Tower would of been worth it. :-P

It could of been worse......they could of been on a malfunctiong X-Scream, being *dropped* a few feet over and over........and over.......and over. Woohoo!

Tina and Jeff, I knew you two were sick, but I am just learning how much :) You know I would have had a depends moment out there, no way do I get on it now.

An Old Coaster fart that refuses to grow old, I just wish many of my friends could have as well!

coasterqueenTRN's avatar Thanks, Ed. ;-) Honestly this makes me want to ride it even more!

I think it's funny how they called it a "rollercoaster" as well.

X-Scream is more coaster-ish than Insanity.....sheesh ;-) High Roller is just a bore. The Big Shot was fun. :-P

Sounds like they need to redesign a mechanism to let them crank it back in faster when it stops like that.

It took the 1995 incident on the Drop Zone at Carowinds for Intamin to redesign a release mechanism if the cars get stuck.
