Indicate the links

Currently, the links within the forum messages and the news items are not indicated with any visual clue such as color or underlining. Sometimes it is a little hard to notice or determine what is a link and what isn't. I think a slight color change would help with this issue.

Perhaps this is a platform issue (Mac, OS 10.3, IE 5).

Huh. That's gotta be a problem with IE5 then. The site looks great in Safari.

Yes, we have a Mac in the family now in the form of Steph's 12" G4 iBook. :)

edit: Wait, you mean the big headlines? Generally I'd be inclined to agree with you, but the text is so much bigger than anything else that I thought it was obvious they were links. I guess that's perhaps not true. *** Edited 4/6/2004 6:31:30 PM UTC by Jeff***

Must be IE 5. The Headlines look like links to me just fine. They are a different color and size than the rest of the text in the headlines. Also the color of those links for me are the same color of links in the forums. I am on IE6 but on a IBM type clone. (Work just wont go with mac.) Besides that even when I move my mouse over the links they change color. *** Edited 4/6/2004 6:35:55 PM UTC by beast7369***

No, I am referring to links that appear within the body of a forum message or a news item. They look identical to the remainder of the text.

example:
in the current "Kennywood" story in the news section, the text that says:
Read more in the Tribune Review

it is all black, all the same size, and nothing is underlined *** Edited 4/6/2004 8:17:28 PM UTC by jdancisin***

Might try upgrading to IE6...not sure, but it underlines just fine on my browser, so it's a good possibility...

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

OK, then that's your browser. Since Microsoft is apparently abandoning support of IE for the Mac, I think I am too. :) Seriously, I don't think there's even anything I can change in the style sheet because regular body text doesn't have any modifiers for text-decoration on links.

Gator: He's using a Mac... There is no IE6 for Mac.

Jeff: Have you noticed that sometimes the columns on the front page are different widths depending on whats in them in Safari? The other day the headlines table was a sliver and very unreadable. Today they're pretty balanced.

I haven't noticed that, but I don't use it as consistently (seeing as how I'm a Microsoft developer and all).

Sorry to revive an older topic...

The column widths on the front page do, in fact, vary on a semi-daily basis when browsing with Safari. On most days this doesn't affect one's ability to read the news headlines and current topics in the forums. There are some occassions, though, where one side shrinks to such a small width that it becomes difficult to read.

Yeah, I've seen that now and then. I'm not going to worry much about it at this point, especially since you'll never see a computer again in a couple of weeks. ;)

You might want to check the IE settings. I know in the non-Mac version you can actually select if you want hyperlinks underlined or not. It's under Tools > Internet Options > Advanced. It's the Underline Links option. (The options are Always, Hover, and Never.)

If this isn't the same for the Mac version (which it probably isn't), I can't really help as I'm on a Dell.

Mac OSX: Explorer > Preferences > Web Content

Guess who's back? Back Again? James K's back. Tell a friend.
